Is anyone here into leather work? I’ve been thinking about dipping my toes into it lately because it looks really fun. I think it would be a good combo with my woodworking when woodworking is too loud.

Dipped my toes in it some 50 years ago while at ISU--I think there was a hobby shop in Ames that inspired me. When I moved back home I didn't have access to what it took to progress as I learned. Internet changed that, but you have to look where it will take you. Anytime you fashion something with your skills it is rewarding but after you make the billfold, belt, and gun sling, what's next, shoes or horse saddles? Maybe I'm too narrow minded but can't see how leather work would give you the same progression/array of skills or end products woodworking has afforded you, so the hobby may be short lived. Most specialty tools in woodworking can be adapted to work from project to project but unless you are doing production work many of the punches used for making designs in leather are project specific. Not trying to sway your decision but do your research. Wood carving is quiet :):)

I have over the last couple of years and know just enough to be dangerous. Went through a wallet phase, knife sheath phase and other.. . Primarily used Veg Tan and hope to try some of the nicer leathers at some point like chrome. Even bought some cool tools from Ukraine on Esty.

Regarding the veg tan, no matter what dye type or coating, they all bleed when wet/damp. So I've stopped dying wallet leather because it bleeds and eats into your coated cards in your wallet. Will go chrome on future wallets.

I also have done woodworking. Anytime you can learn something new and create something with your hands, it's satisfying.
