Need some proof. This is why the internet sucks sometimes because anyone can post something without proof and there are enough idiots out there that will believe it.
My source is in a position to know. Gilbert wanted some extra cabbage in exchange for playing in the NCAA tournament. Someone got into his ear and convinced him to pitch that idea to TJ and it blew up in his face.

Kid made a dumb move.

It’s also interesting how the media has buried it.

Probably because it would undermine the “innocence and beauty” of March Madness. They’d rather show Jack from Lipscomb crying about getting a scholly.

Has the media had access to the information for what actually happened?

And the story about a kid getting to play in a tournament game is more interesting than something that hasn't been confirmed and has been taken care of for almost a week.

People didn't like Heise either because threes weren't falling and he might currently be the most consistent player on the team.
People did not like Heise because, minus the nice run Heise is on, he was not being aggressive on offense. He was a dead hole out there and his defender was not even playing on him. The current Heise seems to be filling coaches and fan expectations offensively.

Edit: I am not aware of any criticism towards his defensive effort.

He was defending including shutting down someone like Cam Jones after he got going and has always been a solid defender and rebounder.

People expecting offense to just happen right away and valuing a player just for that didn't acknowledge what else was happening.

It was more than expecting offense to just happen. Heise was playing scared on offensive, i.e. his "Hot potato" routine whenever the ball was passed to him. Heise is a 5th year senior not an 18 year old freshman.

Haha scared?

It was likely a confidence thing in a new system but I wouldn't use 'scared'.

It probably just took time to get the rhythm and confidence when his strengths were already there from the start.

That's how a basketball season goes.

Either way someone saying they didn't know why he was playing was putting out a really stupid take.

He was deferring his offense to guys like Gilbert.
That was his biggest issue. Wasn't so much scared but rather a choice.

Offensive responsibilities on this team changed once injuries started to occur. And Heise was given more freedom within it.

Fair enough.

Are you implying he shouldn't have been playing?

It's a good thing he guarded Cam Jones late or no?
Madguy30: "Either way someone saying they didn't know why he was playing was putting out a really stupid take."

MTCyclone43: "I can AGREE with this section of your comment."

Madguy30: "Are you implying he shouldn't have been playing?"

MTCyclone43: "I do not imply anything. If I thought Heise should not be playing I would say it directly!!!"

This makes no sense on a practical level. The dude is hurt - did you see him play against Cincinnati? Or in any Big 12 game since January?

The rumor that he’s asking for more money so he can play at 50% strength and hurt the team is beyond stupid and doesn’t make any sense.

Keshon has scrubbed/deleted his X account, FWIW. Was posting (positively) during game yesterday, but now, nothing.

Early in the season, I thought Heise would be my favorite player on the team just because of his all around game. But man, he took a downturn where he was a liability on offense. Wouldn’t even look at the basket and couldn’t get rid of the ball quick enough. I’m not sure what happened, but somehow he found his confidence and is now playing like he was at UNI. Crazy. I mean, most players have ups and downs during a season, but this was a freaking roller coaster.

I don’t believe you at all.

We know for a fact he took less money this year so we would have the funds to bring in Jackson and Jefferson.

There’s deferring and there’s whatever that was. He always had value as a defender, rebounder, secondary ball handler, but his offense was a liability for a good stretch of the season. We needed more from him, especially when Momcilivic was out. I mean, teams were leaving him unguarded on the perimeter. Thankfully, he’s found his shot and his confidence now. He’s a plus player all the way around at this point.
