You do realize you are on our board expecting us to bow down and kiss the feet of Bill Self and almighty KU. If you really thought you could come here and set us all straight and get everyone here to all of the sudden say "You're right Champ, KU is God's gift to all things basketball" then you are delusional. Go play swords with twocoach and play Pullnpray with Pullnpray.
We aren't expecting us to do anything of the sort. We are just simply explaining that a few early exits from the ncaa tourney or the Big 12 tourney don't really bother us that much because they are always followed pretty quickly by years with great ncaa tourney and Big 12 tourney success. You guys seem bound and determined to try to get some KU fan to say "you're right, we suck because we don't make the Final Four every year that we're a #1 seed and we don't win the Big 12 tourney every year" but it simply isn't going to happen because that would be utterly stupid to think that.

Agreed, and if I am going to take a few days off work for a multi-day party at a sporting event I just go down the street from my building to watch the college world series. That's a ten day party with fans from all over the country.

If you come across any Big 12 tickets post them here, ISU fans love taking time off work to go to KC

It's not an excuse. ISU fans just seem hell bent on finding something that raises the hackles of KU fans and we just aren't tat worked up over it. Sure, I'd LOVE it if KU would win the Big 12 tourney every year and make the Final Four every year but to expect that would be pure foolishness and to be bent out of shape when they don't just isn't needed when you know you'll get another great shot at it the next year.

Considering the # of Micky D's that KU has had over the years, I would say that they have woefully underachieved. It amazes me to see the blue bloods think that they have it "tough". If KU is comparing themselves to ISU in any way, that speaks more positively of ISU than it does KU.

Everyone (including you in your first sentence) is trying to convince us we've had it tough thanks to being so bad in the Big 12 and ncaa tourneys and we're arguing the opposite so not sure what your argument is here.

Even though KU has won the Big 12 tournament far more than any other team in the conference, most KU fans don't put too much stock it. When you've just played an 18 game round robin to determine the best team in the conference, the conference tournament seems pointless. The only years I've really cared about the tournament are the years in which we tied for the regular season championship, because then it can serve as an unofficial tie-breaker. Of the 4 times during the 10 year streak that KU has tied for the Big 12 championship, we have won the conference tournament 3 times. And while we hate losing in the NCAA tournament, it is hard to feel jealous of ISU or Baylor for accomplishing something (Sweet Sixteen) that we have achieved 10 out of the last 14 years.
I call ********. The conference tournament is your last chance to improve your NCAA tournament seed (or lower your seed, if you don't do so great). You're telling me it doesn't matter? I can assure you 200% that it matters to Bill Self. If it can affect your team's seeding in the NCAA tournament and you tell me that as a fan you do not care, then I'll say your fans don't know **** about basketball.

For KU, the performance in the Conference Tournament rarely has an impact on their seed. There have been several years where a 1 seed was wrapped up before Big 12 Tourney. Last year, winning the Big 12 Tournament wouldn't have gotten KU a 1 seed so the semi-final loss didn't mean anything in terms of NCAA seeding. In 2009 KU lost to Baylor in the quarterfinals and still got a 3 seed.

Now for teams in the 7-13 seed range, a strong run through the Conference Tournament can significantly improve their seeding. KU is almost never in that position though.

Yeah, right... I can see this being the case SOME years and I think it only applies to the difference between a 1 and 2 seed. The rest of the time, it definitely applies to seeds 2-13. You're now just making **** up because you backed yourself into a corner.

You slant it however you want. The funny part is that you expect to come here and not have some folks trash KU. Or you expect that the points you make will not be slanted and skewed to fit the perception of the people on this board.

I can agree with what you say, not going to the Final Four when you're a #1 seed doesn't mean your program sucks or that your coach/program is not good in the post season. Not making an Elite Eight when you're a #1 or #2 seed doesn't mean your program sucks or that your coach/program is not good in the post season. This sounds like the opinion of a member of a fan base that is trying to be where your program is, it is called envy (and I am not too proud to admit that KU is a program I would love to be on par with tradition wise). That doesn't happen overnight BTW, Cyclone fans.

If you want to count the feathers in KU's cap (like you do here expecting us to be in awe and suddenly change our perception of KU) then go to a KU board. You are simply not going to get everyone here to admit that KU is the barometer, that we want to be where KU is. We all know the numbers pal, we all know KU is a great program but more than likely what you'll get here is F*** KU! So like I said, if you want something other that F*** KU, go to a KU board.

Oh and BTW, F*** KU! Go State!!!

Well then please provide multiple examples of how KU's performance in the Big 12 Tourney significantly affected their seed in the NCAA Tournament. Should be easy.

KU recently won the Big 12 tourney in '13, '11, '10, '08, '07 and '06. So, the recent years KU didn't win the Big 12 tourney: 2014: More worried about how team would do without Embiid than whether they'd get a #1 seed versus a #2. If they were able to win the Big 12 tourney last year they possibly would have earned a #1 seed but it's pretty debatable with what would have been 8 losses considering we had already beat both ISU and Baylor twice earlier in the year. 2012: lost to Baylor in the Big 12 semis. Got a #2 seed. Would another win over Mizzou (had already split with them that year) really be enough to get them past Michigan State or Carolina into a #1 seed? Debatable. Kentucky and Syracuse were firmly entrenched as #1 seeds so no way we were talking their spots that year. Plus we played for the title anyways that year so being a #2 seed worked out pretty good all in all. 2009: lost in quarterfinals against Baylor. Winning the Big 12 tourney that year would have only added a victory over #14 Mizzou, hardly enough to raise KU from the #3 seed they got. After that you go back to 2005 and honestly, I think you get the point

Who said I didn't expect that? I do. I just encourage folks to make it better than the equivalent of name calling and "your momma" jokes. I don't mind being the sounding board for people to vent their feelings about KU on.

Guess we're just reading posts differently, the "between the lines" messaging can be taken a number of ways.
But you're significantly exagerating, and not benefiting the dialog, when you claim we think KU sucks or should win tourneys every year.
What would be surprising to hear from ANY Kansas fan is an admission that with all the McDonald's players, NBA caliber talent and high(well earned) NCAA tourney seeds, having your average number of wins per tournament coming in at less than 2 is...disappointing? Frustrating?
The less than 2 wins per tourny is even more head scratching when your high seeds (1,2,3,4)match you up against the bubble teams.
Seriously, your huge number of appearances in the tourny, high seeds, and late round success numbers are impressive.
But your average tourney performance stats, number played/number won is why KU has the legitimate, national reputation for being the kid that leans against the wall at the junior high, watching the dance.

You're not expecting JHok fans to admit to anything, are you? Even the Iowa fans have a few that come here and do admit when they're wrong. KU? Not so much.

It is disappointing when KU loses at any point in the the tourney. I have already stated that it's a bummer when they lose earlier than anticipated but that I don't sweat it much knowing that they'll have a great shot at contending the next year. as for the national perception, meh. Don't care. My theory is that people get mad at the the teams that screw up their office brackets. KU, Duke and Syracuse have jacked up some serious brackets in the last ten years so it sticks in peoples memory. No biggie. And I invite you to check your math (and your spelling) on your "less than 2 wins per tourny" shtick. Probably shouldn't use all time records considering the entire tourney was only a few rounds originally. Self is 28-10 in the tourney in 11 seasons at KU which works out to more than 2.5 wins per year.

Sure, it can affect seeding. So can non-conference games at the beginning of the year. Conference tournament championships are nice, but they aren't nearly as important as regular season championships. Bill Self (and most coaches) feel the same way. Roy Williams used to say every year before the conference tournament that he wished our conference didn't even have a tournament. His disdain for conference tournaments used to irk some KU fans.

There are some people that absolutely think conference tournament results are important (Jay Bilas for one) and some that do not care. However, those are just people's opinions, the fact is that they do matter and the selection comittee does take those results into account when determining seeding. To argue otherwise is ridiculous.
