NFL: Kansas City Chiefs Thread

It appears Uwazurike got a hand on the FG. So not a holder or kicker issue there, but a blocking one. But by all means, keep blaming the kicker.
This. The holder messed up the first PAT attempt and Enyi partially blocked the FG attempt right before halftime.

Mahomes has just been off on his deep passes to any of the new guys this year. I don't know if it is a timing issue or what. But there are plenty of games KC would have had 50+ yard TD passes easily if they would have connected. Mahomes said it was his mechanics last game. But to me it just feels like a chemistry issue. He seemed to rarely be off when throwing deep to Hill or Hardmann. Hopefully, Hardmann can get back for the playoffs.

I always remembered the throws to Hill being short as Hill often had to wait on them. Probably a factor of Hill's speed. The overthrows to Watson and MVS all season seems like he is expecting them to be a touch faster than they are. But several of his throws this weekend looked like his was arcing them a bit too much. Could be that mechanics thing he was alluding to.

With Hill and Hardmann he just had to throw it out in front of the them and let them run under it. These guys are not as fast, so the receiver is catching the ball coming back to the DB, instead of running away from him.

I really wonder how the league is going to make up the Bills/Bengals game from last night, its too important of a game to go not being played. I suppose they could run week 17 as usual and see if those results change anything, like the Chiefs and Bengals both losing, thereby the Bills remain the number 1 seed overall, then the game really wouldn't matter, but if either teams win, then they could in theory get the number 1 seed and the bye that goes with it.

Maybe push back the opening round of the playoff a week, and pick the game up from last night in the first round of the playoff weekend?

It’s probably played tomorrow or not at all.

Not sure how the NFLPA will sign off on them playing Wednesday and then again, this coming Sunday. I suppose they could move both the Bills/Pats and Bengals/Ravens games to Monday. But the game has got to be played unless its outcome does not affect the seeding for the playoff. For that to occur then KC and the Bengals would both need to lose Sunday and the Bills win. If the game is not played and the Chiefs win, they would now be 14-3 to the Bills 13-3 and be the 1 seed in the AFC, forcing Buffalo to go on the road for the conference championship if both teams win out.

It's not much different than Sun-Thur turnarounds that occur all the time during the season. 3 full days between games either way.

Valdez-Scantling is as fast though.

So it looks like the NFL has decided that the Bills/Bengal game will not be played this week, and that they will determine if it needs to be played in the future, by the outcomes of this coming weekend.

It almost has to be or at least a decision before week 18. While Cincy can lock up the division with a win over the Ravens, the number 1 seed is in doubt.

I wonder what the scheduling options look like if you decide to play it after Week 18. I don't see a lot of scenarios where this game doesn't matter for playoff seeding and the bye so you almost have to play it. Seemed like playing it tomorrow and then pushing the Bill's and Bengals week 18 games to Monday was about as good of an option as you could find, but that is off the table it appears.

The Chiefs play Saturday, so that should help clear up the picture some if they beat the Raiders in Vegas. If the Chiefs lose and the Bills win, then Buffalo gets the 1 spot, winning the tiebreaker since they beat KC earlier this year.
Where it gets confusing is if all three teams win this coming weekend, then the game will almost certainly have to be played. It's also important to remember that the 2 and 3 seeds meet in the second round, which could end up being between the Chiefs, Bills and Bengals, if you are the 1 seed, you get the lowest seed for the semifinal game. If you are KC, you would rather the Bills and Bengals play each other, and then you win and host the winner of that game, just like Buffalo wants to be in the position where the Chiefs and Bengals play and they host the winner.

I don’t know how they think they will get the game in. Seems crazy to move the playoffs just to play that game.
But they may have too, if both KC and Buffalo win this next weekend, no way is Buffalo going to allow the league to crown KC the number 1 seed when they beat KC at KC earlier in the year. There is also no way KC is going to want to give up hosting a game when they can say they won more games than Buffalo.

You also have to throw in the fact that both teams want to avoid playing Cincinnati until the final game, and the way it plays out, without that game from last night being made up, one of the two teams will have to play the Bengals before they play the other team. Cincinnati would also want to make up the game, because if they beat the Raven's Sunday, and the Chiefs win, they would have to go to KC in the playoffs, it's possible if the Chief's lose, the Bengals could host that game.

Buffalo might not have a say in the matter. It’s unfortunate what happened, but if they didn’t want to finish the game(and rightfully so) then it’s a no contest. They aren’t moving the playoffs this late in the year.

Ultimately it's not going to be a perfectly equitable resolution for all teams. Given the virtually unprecedented nature of the situation, whatever team ends up with the short straw is just going to have to suck it up and deal, be it a team we root for or not.

Buffalo won't have a say
