NFL: Kansas City Chiefs Thread

You might be able to trade him unlike Taylor. He's still good player just not worth the current price. You'd have to be ok with getting nothing back other than offloading him
KC would be better off taking the cap hit on Taylor, at least they have a replacement that can play at a high level. That can't be said about Jones. KC is in a strange place like most teams with very good, high paid QBs, there is only so much money to spread around. Getting Kelsey to retire will help clear up money next year, but they are going to have to wrap up McDuffey, which is going to eat up most of the money.

You think they resign him? They've let a lot of corners walk

Ya, they will do everything in their power to sign him, if he wants the moon, you have to let him walk. But they will offer him a good package, at his age and what he has accomplished you would be silly not signing him if at all possible.

You let McDuffie walk or trade because corners aren't worth big time contracts in this NFL. They have been just fine letting stud corners walk in favor of cheaper guys for a decade now. The shelf life on 90% them isn't much more than 2-3 years at an elite level anyway. If he was a safety it would be different. The secondary is awful right now anyway.

They move one when they have a replacement already on the team, so KC has one veteran corner and one that is new and learning. You trade McDuffie, who becomes your lock down corner, and then you end up using a high draft pick to get a replacement. See how much money he is willing to take, if they can work it in, then you do the deal to keep him around. Now if he asked for the moon, like sauce Gardner did, then you have to move him.

Listened to some analysis of the game and they said that many of those were RPOs where Mahomes decided to hand off instead of attempting a pass. The actually of number of called runs was still pretty low.
Also 4 of those runs were scrambles by Mahomes, not planned runs from the snap. Helaires runs were a waste of time, 5 for 8 yards, long of 4. We have to find a better back than him running as the backup.

I'm good with RPO's. My main complaint with the playcalling this year has been Andy hasn't even been giving the defense the illusion they might run it. 90% of the passing plays he'd been calling were obvious pass plays. He's got a tendency to get impatient and just throw it.

Red Zone offense really needs a revamp. Everything is in the middle of the field and gets jammed up. Andy used to be money with play calls down there. Mahomes also has to sling it into tighter windows. He is so cautious now. Good win tho, really thought they were losing that game. Defense was nails in the 4th qtr.

This season just feels like it does rooting for the Cyclones some years. The talent on the field is there, the execution is not. The Chiefs used to be a team that had to score 40+points to win games because the defense was so bad. Well the defense is pretty damn good IMO and now the offense struggles to score 20

Looks at the losses
Week 1 21-27 to the Chargers
Week 2 17-20 to the Eagles
Week 5 28-31 to the Jags
Week 9 21-28 to the Eagles
Week 11 19-22 to the Broncos

Average score in losses 21.2 - 25.6 So average loss by 4.4 points so offense basically is coming up short by a TD and a lot of those games they had opportunities they blundered. Chiefs are 5th in the NFL in YPG but 9th in points scored which I'm surprised they are even that high but a couple blowouts probably helped that.

The defense is 4th in the NFL in points allowed and 6th least in total yards allowed. The defense is being asked to do a lot. The execution by the offense in these close 1 score losses is where we need to get fixed quick in a hurry. I have a hard time being critical of Reid and the guy is a HOF and won a lot here but something is off with the offense this year and feels like play calling has a lot to do with it.

Mahomes has been off on his deep throws all season long. He missed at least 4 yesterday that were all overthrown. Teams are finally figure it out, rush four, keep the outside rushers outside, and force him to stay in the pocket. Teams like Denver and Buffalo always kept a MLB in spy on Mahomes and when he stepped up to run, the guy was there to meet him. Not sure why Indy did not do it yesterday and they were burnt a couple of times.
Said it before, it would help a lot if we had a back that could actually hurt the defense, Hunt ran well yesterday, but even then, his longest run was 18 yards, so he got basically a 1/5 of his yards on that one play. 30 carries for only 104 yards is only 2.96 per rush if you take that one off his stats. We need an upgrade at the position in the draft.

Even though the stats as you point out defensively don't show a drop-off I feel like there has been. Seems to me like they're more inconsistent from game to game. There's been a few games where they just haven't gotten off field late in crunch time. Jacksonville, Denver, and Chargers come to mind. They're still a solid unit as is the offense but similarly just maybe not quite as good which is turning last years close wins into losses. Got a close one yesterday and both units really played well down the stretch. Hoping it's a good sign of what's to come. Feel like 11-6 we make it 10-7 gives them 40% chance and anything worse is highly unlikely.

Its the lack of pass rush by the front 4. Chris Jones is still great, but not a 1 man wrecking crew as much. George is just average and no one else on the line is worth a crap pass rushing.

I used an nfl playoff prediction simulator for all games remaining for each team the rest of the year. I still had KC getting the 2 seed and it’s not that far fetched. I don’t think that ultimately happens but you never know. Thursday will be telling.

KC's defense has what I noticed is a 2 good plays, one bad play sequencing. They seem to have a good first and second down, often getting the opposing team in third and 7+, but then give up the enough yards for the first down as teams exploit the hell out of the zone defense. A lot of it stems from the inability to get to the QB with only 4. Losing the rookie DT has been a bigger loss than we realize. Getting ONL back for next year and finding younger help on the interior for CJ is going to be a must during the offseason.

They need to find another rush end that can bring pressure off the edge, in the draft. Depending on what they dow with McDuffy, the draft needs to be the best TE, D end or RB that is available. Then add depth after the first round pick.
