JTS Improvements - Want More

Even with no more space, they could do so much better in terms of service. For instance, having "buffet lines" where you grab and go. Or beer coolers where you walk by, grab what you want, and pay as you leave. Arizona State had several of these. Never a long line, even on a hot day.
This is the way. PGA events have had the grab and go model for awhile and it's extremely efficient.

If they ever do anything with the concourse I've always thought the outside of Jack Trice could use a facade. Brick wouldn't match the rest of the stadium but maybe some sort of metal facade (NOT SUKUP SILO VIBES) similar to the Jacobsen building roof to make JTS look a little more substantial from the outside than just bleachers. Plus some cover for rain.
It wouldn't be a lot since most of the stadium lies below grade.
Isn't that what the last round of improvements did? The outside of the stadium now has the south end zone, which looks great from the outside, and then the pillars that at least partially enclose the stadium on the south and north ends. I don't know, the whole place is already Frankenstein's monster.

Maybe with Cytown and the hotel and more people coming to the area theoretically we can attract a company to invest a little more into concessions at Iowa State events. Not sure how since I think Golden rod is in charge of leasing the brew pub or whatever it is...

Im sure it's hard to get good workers for a couple dozen events a year so if you can get more events that go throughout the year maybe they do a better job after a while?

Fully agree.

They need to move the flow to have the lines run parallel to the field, not perpendicular.

Grab as you go.

Have some barricades and egress points with scanners. Enter on one end, leave on the other.

They could incorporate what they did at the Luke Combs concert and that would help a lot as well.

-Have the grass area to the south be open for food trucks and beer sales. Wouldn't need to add onto the Jack, just fence that area and would add lots of space.
-Have the guys go around like at baseball games selling beer. That worked well in our area.

I dont know if it still is the case but, it used to be most of the workers in and around the stadium were volunteers.

Things like ROTC, Greek, and other groups worked concessions and security/parking as community service and/or fund raisers.

I am sure it has never been completely staffed by volunteers but at least a lot of them were when I was in school. (I worked a couple games as a volunteer when I was in school)

I don't recall where I heard/read this, but I was thinking there had been an announcement/report that a new company would be running concessions at JTS and Hilton next year. Anyone else recall?

there are a couple posters that have talked about it but i dont know about anything official

Could have sworn I heard that here a month or 2 ago.

The only announcement is that a company is taking over the concerts. https://cyclones.com/news/2026/3/25...iew-group-to-bring-more-live-events-on-campus

Yeah I read that as they're taking over security/parking/management of all events within the 'Iowa State Center', which includes JTS & Hilton. I know it specifically mentions concerts, but it also says they'll manage parking services for "all Iowa State Center live events" - aren't games 'live' events? Probably just a misunderstanding on my part, which is disappointing cause they obviously need help on gamedays.

If it ever happens, I think that the next big project will be to widen the concourses. Set those concessions/restrooms back about 20 feet. Part of that would be a new facade. And it would make room for a new press box. You do that and the stadium looks big time. It would also make room for beer sales. I'd also do some box seating on either side of the Jack Trice Club on the east side under the overhang. Behind them would be private bathrooms just for box customers. On the back side of those restrooms, maybe that could be where they sell beer.

That all said, I think that the big priority is to do Hilton first. The concourse expansion is necessary there and will allow for beer sales once they expand concessions. Adding windows out to the pillars would be a huge, huge improvement.

I don't remember the timeline or exact sequence of events, but the concourses at JTS have been widened. Did they do that before completing the south end zone or as part of that project? I highly doubt they would be widened again, but who knows.

Around 2007-2008 they did it when they did the east and west side refreshes.
