JT Toppin - torn ACL

Too bad for the team and for him, especially considering it's his senior year. I don't know that he would've been a lottery pick, kind of a tweeter, like Fizer), but I suppose this will affect his draft stock.
Fizer was the #4 pick his after his junior year, not sure that you chose right tweener comp?

Fizer was a tweener that got drafted by a horribly managed franchise, on a team that already had an exact clone of a tweener of him. Literally could not have been a worse place for him to get drafted. In an alternate universe, he could have been a really solid pro, as he had great hands, great rebounding instincts - even against taller more athletic opponents, a really good jumper with range, and was strong as hell.

As for Toppin - absolutely brutal for him, and brutal for the Big 12. Texas Tech and BYU are likely early exits from the Dance now, and that absolutely will be held against our conference. There will be absolutely no mention of injuries when they lose early, only how overrated and underperforming our conference is. This sucks.

Going to Chicago was the worst place he could go, they already has someone in that position that had been a high draft choice and they doubled down with Fizer and he never could make an impact.

Still disagree that he was a tweener, if Bulls didn't he was going to be a lottery pick, not sure, is that top 11?
Agree that was a bad organizational fit. He also had the bone spurs, that also seemed like a whole ordeal, with him and management.

Edit: top 14 are considered lottery picks.

Damn. Sucks for the Big 12. Until Saunders/Toppin went down, I legit thought we'd see 5-6 Sweet 16 teams.
Big 12 has had some bad luck with big time players going down before March or during March. Remember when Shed from Houston went out in the NCAA tournament? Of course we all know what happened to us last year. Probably the worst of us was 2014 when Naing went down. Anyway, yeah this really hurts the Big 12.

Not that I feel bad for them but Kansas had MacCoular out two years ago and KState had Dean Wade out a year they got upset in the first round.

Different drafts, I believe, since then. Toppin might be #4 this year if not for the incredible freshman class and foreign players. Tweener in the NBA. My perspective is both are not tall enough to play the role they play in college, not quick enough, good enough outside shooters, and not good enough handle to play as a small forward in the NBA.

I do think Fizer could have found a role on the right team.

Bummer for Toppin, Tech and the Big 12. They were a legit national title contender before Toppin went down.

Man, huge blow. Really feel bad for Mr. Toppin, TTU and the Conference. Would be much better to have the marque players playing in marque games in Feb and March. Good luck in the NBA, young man.

Presumably they’ll need to pay him good money to redshirt? I’d assume someone will if they don’t.
Sam Veceine was the one o saw speculating and he posited something like a 2 year $5 million deal with $1 million in the redshirt year and $4 million as a senior. He’s a sharp guy and that does seem realistic to me if it’s what JT wants. Someone else might just pay him that much to rest and recover until January/February though so who knows

Someone else said he may well get drafted, which probably makes sense.

That said, if he got paid $5M to recover and play a season that seems like a case where the Wild West approach to paying players resulted n something good.
