Jok Eye-Poke

Wasn't there a similar play with Forte of OK St last year? I just remember the refs stopped play, but I think Forte stayed in after the stoppage.

I also wish Hilton wouldn't boo all the time. We are a top 5 program, refs aren't out to get us with every call.

It was a dumb look by the crowd. They were ****** because we were getting our *** kicked at the time. Saying the crowd was booing him for writhing on the ground makes no sense. The Hawks got no benefit from it. The crowd mistakenly thought a foul was called, and went so far as to pull out the bull **** chant. Dumb look, but doesn't matter in the long run. It'll be something for the hawk fans to cling to so they can feel better about the loss.

zero problem with the booing. First it's either a foul on Naz or a travel, a no call is a nutless move by the ref. Second if you're going to roll around on the ground for a couple minutes for a pretty mild eye poke(Kane's is the exception) you get what's coming to you. Fans respect toughness not flopping.

For ****'s sake. Sometimes fans boo. It is a rivalry game. The officiating was really bad for a stretch of that game.
Iowa State fans sure as hell can get all high and mighty about things.

I have a serious question for Iowa Stte fans: Why do you boo so much? Nearly every time the whistle blows and the resulting call is not in ISU's favor, the fans boo. Are the majority of fans not knowledgeable about basketball? Is it the "herd" or "mob" mentality? Are the refs just that bad at every single game? I'm genuinely curious, because literally every Iowa State basketball game I have ever watched is filled with constant booing from the fans, more so than any other sporting even I have ever seen.

There was very little booing tonight. So I'm not sure what you are talking about.

But, in general, we don't boo our own players like you guys do. And, in general, we are passionate about our teams, so that might lead to booing.

If your fans were as engaged, I'm sure you would do the same.

You guys claiming no one writhes in pain on the floor do not watch must basketball. In college my roommate and i had an ongoing bet during every basketball game. Every time play stopped with an injury resulting in a player on the floor, I had eye injuries, and he had the field. Loser of each game bought beer. I can say with confidence that eye pokes were responsible for more players on the floor writhing in pain than all other injuries combined among games I watched in the 98-99 college basketball season.

You can't argue with a rock solid scientific study like this.

Instead of bringing weak criticisms you might want to take notes from the fan base who is responsible for one of the best home court advantages in the country. Being so knowledgeable about basketball I'm sure you can figure it out.

If you thought there was very little booing tonight that kind of illustrates my point- there was a lot of booing tonight, on numerous occasions towards calls that were clearly correct. Again, it's not something that I just observed tonight but rather over the course of several years. I suppose you can chalk it up to "passion" or "engagement" if you'd like. I'm just genuinely curious.

I go to every game in Hilton, and 'No, the fans don't boo every play. What you witnessed tonight was not untypical of an intense conference game or in this case a rivalry game. I've watched whistles against a player just touching someone all season so far with these so called new rules, yet early in the game Morris clearly got bumped into hard off of his path to the basket and nothing called. That was right after Woodbury barely got touched on a ball he didn't get over the rim, yet the ref blew the whistle well after he saw the miss. Heck, I hardly ever boo and I guess those two got me going. I'm not saying the refs were bad, I thought they let the players play and did not affect the game. Think the start of the game and how it unfolded had a lot to do with it. But seriously, 'mob' mentality? Whatever.

Maybe this has already been said (didn't read the whole thread) but I think our fans were booing the fact that the ref stopped play for the guy with the ball being hurt. I've seen players sprain ankles, or in Derrick Rose's case, tear ACLs with the ball and not have play stopped. I don't disagree with the decision either way.

Guys go easy on him. This must be very difficult to understand as a hawk fan when what you are familiar with is CHA. You see, at ISU, (beyond actually just showing up) the fans will do whatever it takes to win the game. If there is a basket made that seems even a little important, we yell until we taste blood. If there is a call that seems even a little questionable, we yell until we taste blood. We support our teams and we do it 100%.

After we forced a shot clock violation at the end of the game, Georges went down and pretty sure he just got hit in the lip a little bit. Very good chance Jok was actually in pain. The booing was terribly classless

Have you never been to a football game at kinnick? It is the SAME THING over there.

Prohm mentioned guys being gassed at end when he took a timeout, mentioned Niang's bloody lip.

What I was thinking. This concept if a home court atmosphere is a foreign concept. Just wait until they find out we didn't give away pizza and bobble heads at the game and all those people still showed up!
