JJeff is a !st rounder!!!!!

As someone who doesn't follow pro sports other than seeing what former Cyclones are up to. What's the outlook at Brooklyn like.
In terms of outlook, there is no outlook. It's bleak out there, not really a good franchise. Which I guess is good since he'll have a good chance of being a rotational player there.

Nate Silver and some of his NBA friends put out a franchise ranking every year.

A year ago, after a trade so shocking that it literally made me wonder whether I was hallucinating1 sent Luka Doncic to Los Angeles, I ranked all 30 NBA teams by a deceptively simple criterion: their likelihood of winning future championships over the next 10 NBA seasons.

Here is Brooklyn at #24 in the association.

24. Brooklyn Nets ⇩

(Nate: 23 ↓, Joseph: 22 ↓, Jeremias: 25 ⇩)

Nate: As a Michael Porter Jr. fantasy owner, I found it a little baffling5 that he didn’t get traded. MPJ was, however, perhaps the one and only reason to watch a team for a slick but perpetually underperforming product that’s never really sold in discriminating NYC. The draft capital, mostly from the Knicks, is good. Maybe they’ll get something out of their scratch-off ticket 2025 draft haul (Danny Wolf figures to be a fan favorite, at least ). But there’s an empirical question about where to rank a team that has plenty of draft capital but not yet any premium talent. My past work suggests that rebuilds aren’t so easy from this sort of starting point.

Selfishly I wanted the Spurs to take him so Boris Diaw could get with him in the gym. I thought an early 2010s Boris Diaw would be a perfect comp for JJ.
100% agree. Can't have our cake and eat it or whatever though. JJeff feels like a natural fit to spare Randles minutes next year.

Can someone explain to me why they would draft him and then trade him immediately? Can they not just trade the pick? I don't know the NBA.
