Here is what I'm hoping for.

PG - new guy/new guy
SG - new guy/ Bolton/Jackson
G/F - New Guy
G/F - New Guy
Post - New Guy/Young/Conditt

If our new guys aren't better than what we currently have, we will stink again.

Young, Conditt, and Foster will compete for the 5

Johnson, Foster, Blackwell, and Young will compete for the 4

Blackwell, Dubar, and Johnson will compete for the 3.

Bolton, Jackson, Walker, will compete for the 2, and as of now 1.

Odds are

Transfer
Bolton
Blackwell/Dubar
Johnson
Young

Because Young and Conditt are already on the team, Foster likely won’t be a day 1 starter. He will come in off the bench and play the 4/5

That’s not to say he won’t play well and take a starting job, but it won’t be his day 1.

A lot of potential! Just get a pg and we could surprise (bubble).

Do you think Dubar could play some 4? I thought I’ve read he’s grown to 6’6” with a good wingspan (6’8” or 6’9”?) and vertical. He’s also a year older than most freshmen. Seems like a gritty play, but maybe I’m projecting my hopes on to him!

There's going to be a transfer that wants to play PG for Prohm. My worry is the wing.

Currently we have Foster, Johnson, Blackwell as possibilities at the 4 and Johnson, Dubar, Blackwell at the 3. Really hope we find a player to add to this mix.

We’ve been recruiting guards more than anything(pretty much only) because they can play 1-3. Most of the bodies on the roster play the 3-5

Even if we got a Juco/transfer 4 I figured Blackwell would play some substantial mins at the 4 for a freshman because the staff was high on him. A lot of posters seem to discount him in talking about playing time. Is he the player the staff think he is or should I change my expectations?

A lot of people here just think a recruit isn’t good unless they are told they are 5 star.

True but we only have one guy w/ D1 experience that can play the 3 or the 4. We have been recruiting taller wings (6'4ish) that are better suited to play the three for us. If one of the Freshmen come in an own this spot great, I just want that not to be by default.

It’s hard to know, but you could be right.

I’m high on all these freshmen, which likely means I’m overvaluing at least one. Blackwell and Dubar have Big 12 bodies, Walker has elite length and little competition, and Foster a highly regarded 7-footer.

The staff talked up Zion right before the season, and he barely played.

I think it’s pretty clear the faith Prohm has in Johnson/the freshman based on who he’s been targeting for transfers.

Am I the only one who thinks foster may take a lot of gc3 minutes? I'm not sure he has proven he deserves preference at this point.

I hope he’s good enough to take Youngs minutes. Nothing against Young, it just makes us better if he is.

Conditt is a bit of a wild card, he has the size and ability. Unfortunately I think he gave up towards the end, and stopped playing up to his ability. He let that slip in an interview and when asked about it he wouldn’t talk about it anymore. I get it, after so many bad bounces you can get deflated. But we need someone who can keep them amped and to never give up. Who knows what a new season will bring.

I’d need to know what Foster has proven to know who gets preference. It’s the time of year to go with what they haven’t proven not to be able to do though :)

I think we’re going to see those two and Young battle for center minutes, with Foster seeing some time at the 4 if he can shoot 3P better than he did in high school.

The 3-5 positions have a lot more versatility this year.

Saw a post about what sit-out Forward Javan Johnson will bring lots to the Cyclones in the 2020-21 with some video analysis.

https://www.isucyclonesports.com/blog/javan-johnson-incoming-cyclone-player-spotlight

Pretty impressive for a freshman highlight. Great form on his jump shot and he shows some nice court awareness with his passes. He may be able to play some point forward after all. Good quickness on his drives as well. We can only assume he will have improved in all areas two years later.

If in the past, good guards and thin on post led to smallball, i wonder if having more talent in post and small forwards might lead to playing a bigger lineup. Could end up seeing JJ or DB play some 3.

People claiming we cant play Conditt and Foster or Young and Foster at the same time are crazy. Why? Is this some unwritten rule I dont know about? We have begged for YEARS for a frontcourt of this size and ability. Remember the 2014 Baylor team with 7'1" Isaiah Austin and 6'9" Cory Jefferson? Those dudes were an absolute nightmare to score on and keep off the boards. So much length. Or how about the 2016 Purdue squad with Isaac Haas and Caleb Swanigan. I still have nightmares about those dudes. Bill Self has figured out for years (including this year) to play two true post players at the same time (Azubuike and McCormick). Literally dominated our frontcourt. Adjust to your dang roster. Not very many teams in the country have two skilled 7 footers that can protect the rim like Conditt and Foster will be able to. Utilize it!
Isn't Foster the definition of a stretch 4? A big man that can shoot the 3? Seems like a no brainer to me.
