Jake Knott - 1st Team All American...

i disagree with the poster who said he isnt a game changer and just racks up tackles 5 yards down the field. thats just flat out false. every game, he's been flying all over the field, he disrupts plays all the time, has a knack for the ball as seen by the INT's and fumbles. He's just a disruptive player and always around the ball.

A great DL will keep the OL tied up (so that they can't get to the next level of blocking). LBs should be making the tackles; even if you have an outstanding DL.

there was a lot of buzz on here about the promise of Knott and Klein and their potential. Not many expected them to play as good as they have, but i think quite a few thought they were going to hold their own.

knott and klein have proven to be every bit of the best players on our team. Name one player with better stats than them this season... kirby van der kamp?? thats it.

I'm just glad its Knott that leads the team in tackles and not David Simms or O'Connell.

Sims has the 6th most tackles in the big 12. Both Knott and Klein are above him. That's saying a lot about our d-line.
Regardless, though I love Knott and think he's an excellent player, the idea of him being All America is a joke. Once he can intercept balls that are thrown somewhere other than directly to him and once he can defend the pass better AND once he can effectively blitz, THEN we can look at All American honors.

Jake Knott is a very good player, but he is nowhere near a game changer. Making a bunch of tackles five yards down field is not All-American worthy.

To be an All-American the opposing team has to be afraid of running or throwing their way, because they are that good. Jake is not at that level, maybe by his senior year he could be second team All-American. He should make atleast the second-team Big 12 this year though. The Big 12 doesn't really have any dominant LB's this year. Maybe Von Miller, but he's more of a DE.

There is some truth to this, but he is clearly at an elite level at forcing turnovers.

If what you say is true, it should be harder for Knott to get turnovers than LBs on elite defenses. A school with an elite DLine will be hitting QBs and having them throw wounded ducks up for grabs, why don't the linebackers at those schools have more INTs than Knott? They don't, he has the second most in the nation.

He should be first team All Big 12 and on the radar nationally.

Someone like Chris Williams or Matt and Miller had gotten the word straight from a defensive coach on this back in late august. He uttered the sentiment that there would be no need to worry about the Linebackers play this year.

Yes. Most of the summer everyone was talking about it as the weakness of the team then just a few weeks before the first game there was word out that it was actually the strength of the defense in practices.

Exactly this. If you ever just watch JK play, he always just floats over to the hole 3-5 yards behind the line of scrimmage. Then he just stands there and waits fot the RB to get to him. I am not sure if that is how the LBs are coached or if they are just too scared to miss the tackle. I would liek to see our linebackers get to the hole and explode through it to get the RB for negative yards.

I think JK and AK will be very good in the next couple of seasons!

I'd be shocked if Knott is 1st team all conference. He's kind of come out of nowhere. Seems to me that a lot of times, it takes a year to get your name out there unless you really blow up. I expect Knott to be 1st team all-conference next year (both preseason and postseason) and then get some AA mention as a SR.

Knott is good.... he is not 1st Team All American good though. I think he might be 2nd Team All Big 12 this season, hopefully.
