Maybe we all should've paid more attention to our women's tennis program. I've checked that ISU does have a tennis complex dedicated to the program, which is located next to the Sukup Basketball Complex. Here's the detailed information.
Well maybe you should have - I've been in there many times.
That's no "tennis complex." That's two courts. I'm talking about a facility where you can actually host meets. The team has to ride in the mini van to Clive to Lifetime Fitness. Or play at the bubble at Ames Racquet and Fitness. That's something high school teams do.

Your opinion is well received. Thank you for the information. Yes I, not you, should've followed our tennis program more closely, which I will from now on.

Sometimes a program has to achieve a certain degree of success before it can ask for more in return. I'm sure if our tennis program continues its success, JP will definitely upgrade the facility, maybe even consider adding the program on the men's side.

I do not want to divert this thread from the celebratory posts about our stunning success in women's tennis. But other schools notice this - we're beating teams we have no right to - and will be calling Boomer.
He came here for good reasons - we had a tennis position open, he liked the campus and community, and most importantly it was a chance for his first NCAA head coaching job - a P5 school at that.
But that won't be good enough in the future, as ISU will be a stepping stone. Unless we're willing to invest some $$$ in serious facilities, we will lose him IMO.

I appreciate all the contributing posters for raising the awareness of the minor sports issues in ISU athletics. May I suggest that we just celebrate our tennis team's victory today and stop worrying about the future of the program till the end of the season? JP's tweets below already indicate that he will definitely make positive changes to the program this offseason.

ISU will face NC State (#6 seed overall, #2 seed in our region) in the second round of the tournament tomorrow (1pm CT, Saturday, May 8). Let's all tune in and support the team.

There hasn’t been any serious $$$ investments in any of the minor sports since the track and softball stadiums. What really needs to happen is a facilities plan for all minor sports. I don’t think Jamie has any plans to do that right now. Especially with the budget issues due to the pandemic, we will be paying off a lot of debt for a long time.

Valiant effort by the ladies. They gave NC State all they could handle and battled hard till the end. This has been the best tennis season in school history and will only get better from here. CyclONEnation is proud of the tennis program's achievement.

Coach Boomer, please be the next Matt Campbell and build something special here at ISU.

This was a monumental upset.

Match Recap

The Cyclones conclude the best season in school history with a 14-8 overall record after reaching the postseason for the first time in school history.

Thasaporn Naklo upset No. 6 Anna Rogers, 6-3, 6-1, at No. 1 singles to even the match at 1-1. It was the highest-ranked player that any Cyclone has ever defeated as Naklo went 2-0 in the NCAA Tournament with victories over a pair of ranked foes.

It marked the end of senior Maty Cancini's career for the Cyclones as she finishes as the school's career record holder with 160 victories.

The 6th match was 4-6, 5-7 and the 7th match was extremely tight too at 1-1 sets when it was stopped.

Congratulations to the team! What impresses me most is that there was only one senior on the court; the other five were all freshmen!

Boomer has been one to watch for a few years and without a new facility this will definitely be a stepping stone for him. They would still be in great or maybe even better shape with Assistant Coach Kenna Kilgo, but I believe they met while he coached and she played at TTU and they might be a package deal at this point.

ISU's Tennis facilities are actually embarrassing for a Big 12 school which makes this accomplishment all the more unbelievable.

Yes JP I agree. I hope you and the ISU administration can contain our tennis coaching staff and make "improving our tennis program" one of the priorities this offseason.

I bet no one would believe that ISU once hosted the NCAA tennis championships.

Was fun to watch them against NC State. They have a bright, near term future if they can keep the staff/players together.

I don't have a huge issue with the team traveling to Lifetime to play indoor matches, but Forker is an embarrassing facility. There aren't even sidewalks around it. Just a broken old set of courts. Something should happen to band aid them near term (refinish) while a longer term plan can be executed.
