First of all NIL money pays way more than any point shaving type scheme ever would. Point shaving was never very lucrative payout wise. But players who were really strapped for money back in the day might be susceptible.

Any point shaving scheme has to be kept somewhat small in nature because any type of huge money coming in that runs contrary to the handicappers will be flagged as suspicious.

Plus, the players you need to guarantee a fix (tank job) are elite skill position guys who are already making fat stacks in NIL.

No it’s not. It means our coaching staff needs to be better at who they’re putting their trust in. For that I think they messed up but I’m not gonna put Campbell’s feet to the fire just yet.

I’m not downplaying what they did. I know how illegal and dumb it is and I’m glad they’re off the team for what they did. It casts a bad cloud around the team and the program. I’m just saying I don’t think I’m going to call into question the overall program culture. Last year’s team culture was not good though. It honestly seems like those guys were entitled with the positions they had waiting behind the stars like Brock and Breece and they thought they were bullet proof. They then had those roles waiting for them and thought they were hot ****. Idk just spit balling.

Right, and it’s almost as bad to bet on your own team to win. If you have a big mouth and bet on your team for three straight weeks and the fourth week you don’t, what does that say?

Jamie Pollard had a really good interview recently with 365 sports. He goes in depth on the gambling thing. I thought it was pretty eye opening.

Money's already involved. That's my point. Players are already making huge amounts of money.

That and the fact that organized crime doesn't run sports gambling any more because of it being legalized.

Just a bunch of guys trying to use insider knowledge to make some "easy" money off the casinos. As Lee found out, sometimes that insider knowledge didn't guarantee a winning bet.

That's the other sad fact about all of this. These guys were risking their careers to place $100 bets or less. I know young men are renown for their sense of invincibility but jeopardizing your career (and thousands in scholarship money) to win a $100 bet is just breathtakingly stupid.

Agree. It's really, really disappointing, especially when it's upperclassman who we thought were team leaders.

JB's the one that's a real head scratcher for me.

The guy waits out Breece, gets his shot finally, but then does this and totally torpedoes his career here.

And these guys also threw away whatever their NIL deals were now and for the future too.

All I'm suggesting is that perhaps Campbell doesn't have his finger on the pulse of the culture like he thinks he does. FWIW, he thought the 2022 culture was fine and the 2021 team culture wasn't right.

I'm not suggesting he be fired, or fined, or anything like that. Just that we should dial back the self-congratulations on our culture when our starters are making choices like these.

It's just a very bad look for your program when you tout a 5 star culture and the guys who are supposed to be the leaders are gambling on their own games.
