I hope you get Aids.
I'm fine with the asterisks Iowa, but this bothers me. Not because it's mean-spirited, but because it's hacky and not current. It was funny when Jim Norton said it on Opie and Anthony in 2001. Now it's not uncommon for someone with full blown AIDS to get on a treatment schedule and move to mere HIV+ status. They have drugs where gay dudes who are positive can go at it raw with negatives and not pass the virus. Many HIV+ patients get to the point where it's hard to detect that they have the virus at all. This would also be hacky, but it would be more accurate to wish someone bottom tier Big 12 status.

What color is your fedora?

It's very odd that you guys say this is Iowa's "super bowl" but you have a thread about ******* iowa? Strange.

I would also like to add, if you hate Iowa, you hate children getting a chance to have some fun while going through a very difficult time in their life.

You guys need to grow up.

This is much better trolling. All you knuckle dragging hacks with your "clown" smack take note and try to be more like this guy.

By that logic, if you hate ISU, you hate farmers. That doesn't sit well with most people who live in Iowa.

You know a lot about AIDS

Waves have been done for years, unless they are doing something different with it. Enlighten me, please? :)

As someone who hates Iowa as much as anyone, their wave is different. After a quarter (I think the first), everybody in the stadium waves to the kids in the upper floors of the hospital that overlook the stadium. SVP actually just mentioned it on Sportscenter after dark, pretty cool thing.

It's the fans.

I was back in the C.R. area this weekend and was promptly reminded of Hawkdom.

For me it's really not about whether or not they went to Iowa (I'm not an ISU alum so can't claim anything), it's how they act like the world revolves around the football team but don't educate themselves enough to watch what happens elsewhere and are blown away when Iowa yet again doesn't win the NC.

Pretty much this. For me, it's not just the fact that the majority of their fans didn't go there, it's that they have absolutely ZERO affiliation with the school but act like they are a spokesman for it.

It's fine if you went to a school, or had a relative that went to a school, or even it's the only/closest school to you in your state. But just because your dad always cheered for them because they were the best team in the state at the time? Yeah, I'm going to look down on you for that.

Well, that's quite the dramatic leap...

Thanks! Someone else explained, and yes, I think that is a wonderful act that SHOULD become a tradition.
Side note - I think I understand the connection little johnny was trying to make now. It has absolutely nothing to do with this thread, and if anyone is using those children, it's him.

It's really eye-opening to put a (figurative) face on a Kirkwood education
Easy on the Kirkwood criticism. I went to ISU and represent . Pumped for Stanley to throw a pick 6 to Peavy. ISU will give up a ton of rushing yards but the secondary isn't that bad. Looking forward to all the talkers to eating crow.

Somebody on BIG TEN NETWORK called Hawkeye Fans, Iowa State Fans (in the first few secs). We are now the premier team in the state of Iowa.

As someone who grows up in a small town that is MUCH closer to Ames than Iowa City, I can attest that there are hordes & hordes of tavern hawks EVERYWHERE in that small town. Same story in towns all over North Central and Northwest Iowa. it's like the Squawking Dead out there! (You're welcome, I'll be here all week)...

God help us all...

....Seriously tho, some of them aren't even in it for the sports. Like they aren't even generally inclined to be "sports-interested", let alone sports fans. Ceremonial Hawkeye fans, if you will, paying homage to the great myth of something they could never understand; supposed value in the notion of Hawkeye football greatness.
They are still trying to figure out why there's a herd of cows named "Colin" and why the Hawkeye players use of fake ids to get into all the AWESOME Iowa city bars might mean the awesome tigerhok Oakley's they bought at the local Walmart are now somehow less cool according to everyone not wearing black and gold.
They hope this isn't true for selfish arbitrary reasons, but they really have no genuine way of knowing if that team, or any team for that matter, is actually for real. The tigerhok is worn by these characters merely as a status symbol thing for our local ignorant masses, like a Larry the Cable Guy fashion statement type thing. We all grew up in this state, we've all encountered people like this. When Campbell and company flips this thing on you Easterners, feel free to keep all of these people in your ranks, they suit you so well.

[Source: Raised a Hawkeye, against my will, as a hostage in our occupied territory. Saw the light easily and switched sides with conviction the first chance I got.]
