Whenever I start questioning how TJ is going about things, I like to remind myself that he’s taken us to the tourney 4/4 years and will very likely make it 5/5 next year, no coach at ISU has ever done that before (Fred would have for sure had he stuck around, but he didn’t). It would be nice to have that one magical season but in terms of average/overall success, this is the best we’ve ever had!

I remember with Tim and Larry wondering how the teams were suddenly so bad after two straight years each of being so good.

Yep. Do you get a 300k salary and free room and board?
1. Do you know each one is getting that? Or just think it?

2. So if they weren’t getting any money, you wouldn’t criticize them?

3. Does getting money prevent them from having feelings when being criticized publicly? Williams and Blum said the criticism this season was heard by the players, which can impact how they play. As you said yourself, these are 18-22 year olds.

4. If money allows for public comment, please post your name, employer, position, and salary. Some might want to post a comment about the work you do. Thanks in advance.

I’m still amazed that calling a walk on slow has so many people’s panties bunched up. If that causes someone to feel bad and leave then I don’t know how they can handle any criticism from a coach or boss.

4. I’m self employed mostly as a farmer so I have no salary so my position would be owner. My name has been out there enough so if you don’t know by now, I’m not reposting. Your turn.

When are some of you going to understand what it takes to get on the court with TJ? Go back and listen to TJ describing Cade's daily habits. If TJ lets Watson on the floor with less than stellar daily habits- then what is the incentive to improve said daily habits? It is like a good route running receiver who cannot get on the field because he refuses/will not block down field. Watson and the rest all know what is required to get playing time. Now if there are accusations that TJ refuses to play certain players no matter how compliant they are- I have not heard of any.
So you're basically saying he's completely fine playing a guy who has terrible habits, but only when he's forced to?

im jumping in late on this convo, but are we comparing kelderman playing to watson playing?

2 completely different positions
I'm not getting involved in that debate. What I'm saying is, Watson must have had bad habits in November/December, then developed good habits all of a sudden to get PT when Milan went out. Then towards the end of the year the bad habits have returned?

How could the coach of a perennial Top 10 program make such a boneheaded mistake? He must have no idea what he’s doing and doesn’t know anything about how to most effectively use the players available to him. Actually he must have been trying to lose the game
To be fair, coaches of perennial Top 10 teams aren't infallible, they do make mistakes. Especially in game situations where quick decisions are needed.

I have a feeling our roster is going to look something like this.
Four returning
Four coming in
Three portal guys receiving NIL
Kelderman gets an open scholarship
A few portal guys the are intended as practice squad or emergency minutes
I'm praying to the great Cy in the sky for Keldermsn to get regular mins next season just to watch CF meltdown.

Probably had nothing to do with Watson’s lack of handle and lack of outside threat . . .

I bet they planned to play him but that went out the window when we got behind. You don’t put your defensive specialist in down 10.
Good defense can lead to offense and fast break and you have a guy who can run the rim and a great back door cutter.

I mean theres been a few games where Watson came in and help win games for us and turn the momentum of the game with defensive play and rebounding, which can be huge in games when others are struggling.

I've seen or heard nothing to indicate any reason for Watson's lack of playing time other than the coaching staff not believing what he could do on the court was what was needed at the time. This seems pretty simple. Not lack of effort in practice, not TJ sending some message about next year. The coaching staff believed other players were better.

I hate how the Watson situation went down this year.

"Hey, we need you to be ready at a moment's notice to provide valuable minutes when our guys are injured, even though we gave you no playing time in the non-con. Your reward when the guys are back from injury? How about you come in whenever Fish and Rock get in the game?"

Watson's defense erased some scores with his shot blocking or altered quite a few other shots. The fact we needed him and then we did him dirty by not rewarding him with any minutes after Milan came back really bothers me. He did everything that was asked of him and we did nothing for him in exchange.

I don't necessarily disagree, but daily habits only go so far. I can be a choir boy, live and breathe daily habits but that doesn't mean I should see the floor over someone who is 10000000X the athlete and brings tangibles (length) that I can't. Daily habits aren't going to make Kelderman a better athlete or longer. So while I agree daily habits are good, it's still doing the team a disservice by playing someone because of "daily habits" over someone that actually brings something to the court that the team needs.
