***Iowa Pregame Thread***

Brock's teams tended to melt down in this particular game also. Almost all mental, basic execution stuff.
The 2019 game was the worst. Firstly, I really think if there was not a stoppage to help Iowa regroup and adjust to what we were doing, we may have beaten them pretty good. We had all the momentum when the stoppage happened.

-Purdy fumbled on the Iowa 19 yard line
-our defensvie backs dropped 3 easy interceptions.
-Iowa converted a 3/22 that kept them in the game, there was holding the Big 10 officials missed.
-special teams breakdown #1, tried to run a kick off out and got caught at our 15 yard line. We commited a penalty return that back us up inside the 5 yard line
-special teams breakdown #2. On the punt right after the above, we had poor coverage. Iowa had a good return and started at our 22 yard line. They scored their their only TD with the short field
-with 206 left and ISU driving, Iowa commited a pass interference penalty that would have given us first down at the Iowa 26 yard line. However the ref at the line of scrimmage called called a ghost holding call. That BS call doesn't get made, we may have won
-special teams breakdown #3. with a 1:37, our two guys collided into each other on the punt return.

Brutal game, painful loss in a game we should have won. So many things had to have happened to allow Iowa to win this one. So many mental mistakes for Iowa State that day

Taking a trip down memory lane (class of '15, so not too long of a trip) the '19 game does in fact stand out as the worst.
Took the early on gf (now wife) to the Houston ISU watch bar to show her what the clones were all about. Place was rollicking with plenty of cardinal & gold plus the overall energy of early season college football. the rain delay in the moment added healthy suspense (& kept the beers flowing for an hour+ longer than anticipated) but ended up being rather sour for all the reasons mentioned. I do have more faith in this version of the fighting Campbells that level of mistakes won't line up.

Reminder if you’re watching the game at home tomorrow to download the Fox sports app on your tv. It should be broadcasted in 4k on there (at least the big noon game in the past has been).

Agree, I remember just not understanding how ISU lost that game in 2019

I think ISU has gotten over that hump and now consistently win the games when they are the better team. So predicting W tomorrow. Iowa gets Ws when favored and gets blown out by the top Teams. Cyclones might not crush them but favored for good reasons

The years Iowa has won this game in the Campbell era is when they've clearly won the special teams battle and turnover battle. I cant remember the stat but it was something like we've out gained them in yards every game since 2018. Have to take care of the ball and be competent on special teams.

Skipped pages 22 to here. No analysis from me. I hope we jump them early and bury those *ssholes the entire game. My dream game would be putting a Stanford rose bowl style beating on those miserable bast*rds.

Shut their fans up until BB season, where I already have confidence we will kick their ass new coach won't matter.

Iowa is better on both OL and DL than last year. And those are where football all starts, so that's the concern people legitimately have. Hopefully our guys ball out, esp on defense.

But agree worse everywhere else (well maybe not QB, but good lord and see other thread for that).
What are you basing the OL/DL thing on?

That entire day was an epic disaster. The skies opened up, never saw so much rain and standing water in the grass lots on a gameday. Lightning. ESPN pregame (Ashton Kutcher was guest picker in Ames) was there and effed up traffic bigly. We got up and out of our motel at 4 and there was traffic backed up out on 30 already. Just a bad mojo event all around.

I think this is phase 2 of Campbell era

I know this has been answered somewhere, but when was the last time we were favored to win the CyHawk game?

It was Eric Church. He sucked ass too though.

Really? That surprises me given Rocco was a RS freshman that year and still unknown on how good he would be.
UI also had an unproven QB coming off an injury then too. FWIW, their defense was much better that year
