True, but that is because of Clark, take them away and the drives are generally within an hour or less, and then you have to factor in Davis Co. is on the edge of the conference. For Albia, the drive to Clark is not bad at all, because they are in the center of the conference. DC is playing Leon, Wayne, VB and Moravia, out of conference, all within an easy hour or less drive from Bloomfield.
Wish VB was in same conference as DC.

Davis County has Knoxville, Chariton, Central Decatur, Fort Madison, and New London that are all around an 1:20 road trip. Probably closer to 1:30 by bus.

The Bluegrass conference is incredibly spread out and teams are also playing SICL teams and POI schools. Moravia going to Iowa Valley, New London, or East Union and Moulton going to Keota are all 1.5+ hours away.
You are not mentioning that DC have Cardinal and Centerville, within 30 minutes, Eddyville and Albia within 45. The drive to Leon or Chariton would be 75 miles or less. They are also on the edge of the conference, schools like Albia abd Charitron would have a lot less travel time since they are in the middle of the conference. Overall the team in DC conference does not have it bad at all travel wise for the majority of them. Now the Blue Grass Conference is horrible, and so would a school like Ottumwa be, but Ottumwa also charters to their games, which would be better than riding the cheese wagon.

Going to districts instead of conferences is not going to help most of the teams in DC's conference because they are roughly the same size and they are playing them now.

Wish VB was in same conference as DC.
They would end up like Cardinal, struggling to compete with the bigger schools that they would have to play night to night. VB was hurt by Harmony going under, and Maharishi not having much for teams. They would also be on the edge of the conference, road trips to Clark would be pushing 2 hours, only schools close would be DC and Cardinal.

My school is in the West Central conference, I'm guessing you will be seeing an invite to Clarke and one other school soon to offset the loss of van meter and DMC. No hard feelings from the WCC, it was time for those 2 to move on

Also why in the world would the LHC invite Knoxville back? And why would Knoxville go back? It has been dropping enrollment big time compared to 20 years ago and was why they left in the first place. I would have invited Nevada instead

Maybe, I wonder if they will go, looks like a lot of traveling up and down I35, but it would be better than highway 2 and 34.

I didn't mention any of Davis County's close road trips because you basically said Clarke was their only long drive. Basically half of their road trips are 1:20 or more.

Looks like about the same amount of travel if not closer, and schools are closer to the Des Moines Metro if there is a lot of parents that work in Des Moines, not sure I guess. I'm guessing Chariton will be the other invite but that one is probably more far fetched. I'm guessing they will invite Clarke and Chariton and if they say no they will go to Nodaway Valley and Martensdale St Mary's or not do anything and stay pat

I’m imagining Ames and Nevada in the LHC. What a “rivalry” that would be.
I think Nevada fits pretty well in the Heart of Iowa.

It's 2 hours guthrie center to Chariton, not sure that would be a good fit.
I don't think so either, I know the West Central and Clarke have flirted the past few years with the expectation that DMC and Van Meter would leave soon. Also wonder if we will see the Raccoon River respond and send an invite to DMC and Van Meter

I think they are thinking big school and small school divisions. My guess:

Big:

DCG
norwalk
Indianola
Ames
Urbandale
DMC
Pella

Small:

Newton
Oskaloosa
Knoxville
Pella Christian
Nevada
Van Meter
PCM

I know very little about the how/why of high school conference alignment but what would Ames' reason to move to this conference from the Alliance?

FWIW, our DMPS school has had conference games at Mason City, Waterloo East (each 2 hours), and Ottumwa (90 minutes) so far this season with one still to go at Fort Dodge (90 minutes).

Newton and Oskaloosa are a lot bigger than DMC but ya you could be into something
