How does that work. Seems like a longs way to go to play AAU ball.
AAU teams don’t usually practice often enough that playing for an out of state team isn’t feasible. It’s actually somewhat common.

Care to elaborate?

Connor didn't win Mr. Basketball last year. His AAU teammate did win it and Connor and Patrick took to twitter to discredit the award. Going as far as saying money was involved in the decision.

I had the same question. So the teams practice together maybe one day per week and then get together for weekend tournaments?

LOL. Not in AAU my friend. When I played AAU we would buy an open gym and jack up threes, throw lobs, and the tall guys would dunk. When we had out of town guys on the team they just came for the tournaments. If you’re bringing in guys from out of state, or from far away in state they were considered “guest players” and they were good enough that they do what they want and show up for the games.

They also basically said no one who plays at a small school is ever the best high school player.

Joe Smoldt, who won it, is a stud. 20+ points per game as a true freshman at Upper Iowa. Kid can't do a damn thing about being 5-9. One of the best high school scorers I've ever seen live.

You had a far different AAU practice regimen then I did it seems hahah, but We had a player from Merrillville, IN and one from Lake Geneva, WI that drove down to practice once a week out of our two practices. And I know teams like Spiece Indy drove players in from all across the state in for practices and some from the Chicagoland subarbs, players for Chicago AAU teams would do the same from the state of Illinois.

I guess it just depends on when it works out for them and how willing/able they are to make it to practice. Maybe it's changed since I was playing, and 4 hours is further than the situations I brought up, but it wouldn't surprise me for Connor to drive to some of the practices. D1 is a solid team and plays in high end tournaments, so it isn't a bad move basketball wise, though I would never do that.

Just a sh*tty situation all the way around for the players on the barnstormers that actually want to develop and play in front of college coaches, because not everyone can just up and change teams to one in Minnesota with that level of respect on the circuit.

Its good the local sports thought they needed to lead with lil Fran leaving the Barnstormers. Its also funny they act like Fran had to work to get him to come to Iowa.

Usually when kids hit around 9th grade the practice thing is not really the deal. They just go play games. For example, I have a relative that played for the Barnstormers last year. He went over 3 or 4 times to learn the offense. Then it was just playing every weekend across the country. He had a private coach in the area he lives.

If the "Barnstormers" are to survive they will pretty much have to rebrand and start over. As far as AAU practices go I can only go off of a coworker whose daughter places for Attack. They drive between CR and Ames two nights a week during the season plus at least one day on the weekend for practices. They had been carpooling with another family from CR but her husband is now going to coach for them so he gets the driving duty now.

We sure it's not the 6'5 PF from Lakeville North?

jk, but forreal who is it they are thinking? I know Matthew Hurt plays for D1, and he is a hell of a player, would take a lot for Patrick to convince him that Iowa is better than Kentucky, Kansas, UNC, Duke, Arizona, etc. etc. etc...
