HDMI Cables?

Does it really matter which kind you get? I bought a flatscreen last night for the first time ever and it only has HDMI inputs. I honestly have no clue what I'm doing with this stuff but I sure as heck don't want to spend 60 bucks or more on a cable.

I found this on Newegg for 10 bucks. I bought a 1080p 120htz TV last night and I want the picture to be as good as possible but am I really going to notice it being "slower" if I don't buy some super expensive cable?

monoprice.com is the *only* place to get HDMI cables. Any cables for that matter.

As far as HDMI cables, I've heard that it doesn't matter. I bought a pack of 2 6' for 5 bucks awhile back knowing I was going to buy a HDTV but haven't used them yet obviously.

I did the same and have had no problems. Beats paying 40-50 bucks at Wally World for o ne.

Bought the Samsung 46' LED. It had features my wife liked and it was a price we could agree on. We'd just paid off our car so it was kind of a "reward" so to speak. We've been looking at TV's for almost 3 years and the technology has moved to a point where I really like what you're getting for the money.

I got a Samsung 850. My sister, brother and in-laws each got a Sony Bravia of some sort. Wouldn't complain about any of them.

My recommendation - head to a big box store like Best Buy - look at them all side by side, check out different pics like sports (motion), color depths (particularly blacks). Pick a model or two you really like.

Then hit the internet hard. Got mine from Amazon. In-laws from Dell. You'll save hundreds.

Also - sites like Amazon have customer reviews. I think those are worthwhile to check out.

My brother just bought a whole new TV and home theater setup with two 55" screens and all of the equipment. He bought all of his cables online for incredibly low prices compares to the Box stores and everything looks fantastic. I'd say buy the cheapest you can find.

I know this has been discussed a thousand times before but don't count out Plasma. I have both an LCD and a Plasma and I can tell you that the Plasma is a better TV overall if you have the right conditions. It also depends on what size you're thinking of buying.

BTW-I'll second monoprice.com. I've bought a ton of things from them speaker wire, multiple HDMI cables, TV mounts (they are sturdy), DVI to HDMI, etc and every time they've been top notch.

Definitely buy cables online, bought mine at Monoprice. I can't believe you don't have other inputs though...I think I have 3 component inputs, 4 HDMI inputs, an audio/video input, s-cable, etc.

I had a Best Buy employee chew me out and basically call me stupid for rejecting his claim that I needed an $80 Monster HDMI cable for my PS3. I told him that I had already had a perfectly good Rocket Fish cable at home that would work just as well. He wouldn't drop the fact that I was wrong, even though I wasn't, and finally I just turned my back on him mid sentence and walked away.

I did the same thing on Sunday when I saw the sale, I ran home to see if I could find one cheaper on Dell or Amazon... I couldn't get a used version of my TV for that cheap on Amazon. The box stores are in trouble and they are doing a lot to get people in the door.

It is a good recommendation to take a look at them side by side, but BE VERY CAREFUL because stores like Best Buy are known to mess with the settings to make cheaper tvs look worse and name brand tvs look better. The best idea is to look at the specifications for the different tvs. Find one with all the features you want, and if it looks good enough for you then go for it. I ended up buying a 37" Olevia a few years ago on a Target black friday sale because it was a good tv despite its brand name. A great site to check for info on tvs is the avs forums AVS Forum there are people on those boards who know -way- too much about HD TVs.

Just go to monoprice. Great cables, good prices. I like the ones that are little thicker so they do not get twisted up as much, and I get ones with better ends so they tend not to slip out as I am moving stuff around.

That being said, I don't think I have paid more than $15 for an HDMI cable.

Really? That's surprising.

I got mine last January from Amazon and it was about $300-400 cheaper than Best Buy, 24 month financing, free shipping to the door, no tax (I know, I know) and they had a $200 NFLShops.com voucher included - so more like $500 off or so.

Father in law's tv was about $200 off plus free shipping. He actually cancelled his order from Best Buy. That was June.
