I remember in the 1980s listening to Cyclone basketball on the radio. I already pay ESPN enough. Hello John Walters. Sorry I am older than most. I had an antenna in the attic mounted on a pipe, inside a larger pipe, so I could reach my hand in an access to rotate the antenna toward Sioux city for High School State basketball games, Omaha for regular TV and towards Ames for WOI and Iowa State Basketball. I am looking forward to the throwback. The WOI games were fuzzy but very watchable. Better than the American Sportsman on ABC.

It's the principle of the thing. Soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo many micro transactions and subscriptions these days. I've personally just had enough :/
I used to scream until I couldn't anymore when micro transactions first started up in video games. Fighting a losing battle.

Sigh, don't I know it. To be fair I don't generally have a problem with DLC and stuff like that, but I do have a problem when it's predatory (carrot on stick, loot boxes, pay to win, etc)

And the ESPN+ thing is just weird. . . I already bought a package that carries (several) ESPN, and now I gotta buy more ESPN, even though ESPN is already the reason cable costs so damn much to begin with? That's why I'm not getting ESPN+. They want to have it both ways right now, it seems. I could be wrong and they'll split off and have an amazing comprehensive streaming service where you can subscribe to your teams' games eventually, and sure that'd be great! But for now. . . meh.

This is America. Shut up and pay up. I'm proposing that as a replacement to E Pluribus Unum.

I think, in time, ESPN is going to build ESPN+ and eventually put games on there that are also on ESPN/ESPN2.

The games on WOI are part of the reason I became such a fan of ISU. Having Big 8/12 games as group away from ESPN was a neat thing. Times change, not always for the best but you have to move on with them.

It goes both ways. I remember getting The Athletic and posting a link to an article and people complaining it was behind a pay wall. It was $1 at that point, and people still wouldn't have it. It is what it is.

There's early adopters of everything, then the next wave (that makes the late adopters feel like their dumb for not doing it), then the late adopters when there is no other choice or the price has gone down. Everyone has their thing, no need to bag on others for not doing what you do.

I wasn't going to, but then the package with Hulu and Disney+ came along, and, well...Mandalorian. :D
However, I'll be AT the game, so the point is moot for me on this one.

Yep. This is also how the Cubs and Braves have hurt their brand. You could watch all their games on WGN and TBS nationally due to being on a superstation. Now we can't even get all the Cubs games locally unless you have directv and sports package.

So. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

Fox backed out of the Big 12 Championship football game. We didn't have a home for 2 of those big money games.

ESPN strikes a deal to pick those games up and make a de facto Big 12 online network

ISU fans beat their chest for years saying we can't wait for the day when tv markets don't matter! We'll pay!

Right. $5 and we want to go back to WOI farm TV from '83. ESPN+ flops and it'll be interesting to see if there's an impact to the tv rights down the road.

Agreed. This is good for these teams in the SHORT run. In the Long run they are just shrinking the fan bases that will care at all in the future. Colleges and sports have enough things going against them in the future (read demographics and economics) this will just shrink the number of fans.

They constantly told us that owning their own T3 content was superior. And then let them build the infrastructure for what, 5 years? And boom they needed to sell two games and gave ESPN the whole shebang for less money in the end. All so E$PN could buyout CBS contract for a few $EC games at like 10x the price. They failed, BADLY.
