I remember getting to the Lake and we saw a bear swimming on the far side of the Lake. There were probably close to 100 other people there and one guy commented "we won't have to worry - there are 100 people here with bear spray so if he dares to come here, he'll be a little bit spicy".The end of Avalanche Trail (portrait mode for file size). It was sunny and 88 degrees out on Going To The Sun Road when we parked- 2.5 mile hike in to Avalanche Lake and it was cloudy/stormy looking and 62 degrees.
I replied "But how many really know how to use the spray though?"
And old lady overheard our conversation and she said "I don't - me and my husband were just told to bring the bear spray but we have no idea how to use it".
