I heard a crazy statement somewhere that our athletic department made more money from this one concert than they did from home football game ticket sales for all last season. I have no idea whether this statement is true, though.
Regardless, given the enormous financial challenges caused by the new pay for play environment, I think our athletic department will be doing all they can to schedule more concerts in the future.
Where did you see that statement because I want to know who's got the drugs that make you say something so outrageous. That has to be some primo level stuff
I'm surprised they posted that because the rumor around Ames was the turf crew was not happy about hosting this concert. That post gives JP ammunition to host more of them.

Its probably true but misleading.
Total ticket revenue may have been larger than ticket revenue from football.
But you also have to consider that what's counted as "ticket revenue" on the ISU football books is likely just the face value of tickets, and not the bulk of the cost for many seats, the required donation.
You then also have to look at the fact that its revenue and not profit. How much of that ticket revenue did ISU have to give to the performers, the event staff, and other costs of operating this event?
I’m finding it hard to believe that we charged 14MM for JTS or charged a different amount and made up the difference in parking and everything else.
I would guess JTS was 3MM or so to rent plus any worker fees for tickets/security and such. I don’t know who had concessions.
We made maybe a quarter million off parking, can use half a million incase I’m estimating really low.

The average ticket probably was around $400 for the concert. Take that times whatever the total ticket sales were. Let’s say 60,000 people bought a ticket. That’s $24,000,000 in just ticket sales. Parking and vendor sales adds however many more millions. After payroll, ISU had to have grossed at least $15,000,000.

Saw that concert up in MN mostly because I wanted to see Kenny again. ZBB was good, but Kenny... man if he came to Ames I would spend ungodly amounts of money to get front row seats.
