Future Big 12 FB Opponents/Schedule Announced

I'm more of a basketball fan than a football fan. I still check all the scores, and if I'm home I'll turn on the game, but usually I'm happy to make other plans or listen on the radio.

I made sure to watch Cyhawk. My friend group from ISU were all messaging each other about it. We don't do that for Farmageddon. It's sad that the streak is ending, but other than that 3 out of 4 years is fine.

It would be really easy to have both.

They're just going along with the company line here, too, which is fine. The Big 12 clearly wanted to limit protected rivalries. JP has a weird desire to play down KSU. So he was more than happy to go along with it.

The Big 12's desire to make everyone play each other regularly is the right move. You just could have accomplished it without breaking one of the coolest streaks in college football, in a game that's absolutely become a big deal to both sides.
I totally agree. I'm very disappointed that the streak against K-State will end - and think it is a big opportunity lost for the Big 12 to promote that and push it. Especially if ISU and KSU are amongst the top class in the new league.

But I do agree that if we are 8-2 or 9-2 and UCF or Houston come to Jack Trice in November, people aren't going to complain or not go because it's not K-State.

I do also like that the Big 12 is trying to be competitively fair so they can minimize uneven scheduling as much as is possible without a true round-robin.

to be that upset about it that you go and email the AD of a division I program is ludicrous
Ha, I emailed JP when we were getting screwed by UNLV on tickets. He responded fairly quickly with an actual non pre-empted response. Admitted it sucked but he'd prob have done the same thing if he was in their position. Not the answer I wanted but it was nice getting a real reply.

Just listened to the Williams and Blum podcast today,

I love those two, but they’ve never had a worse take.

C-Dub sounded excited to be ducking K-State, which is a loser mentality that Cyclone fans need to snap out of.

Blum pretty much equated a protected Farmageddon with Georgia playing at Texas A&M once in 12 years and insinuated that it would throw off competitive balance. It’s one freakin’ game and would in no way prevent K-State from playing every team every other season.

C’mon guys. It’s the longest consecutive rivalry in college football. It’s survived the Great Depression, world wars, and a global pandemic. We can’t let the conference just kill it off without a fight.
I agree if the rivalry could have been kept, it would have been great to make it happen. The 100 plus consecutive games is awesome and will be unfortunate to lose. However, if it's reconsidered and the streak isn't ended, it would help to have a stipulation that a trophy was made for the game. Also, if the rivalry is to be looked at with greater importance, athletic departments need to get a sense of excitement for the game that is greater than there has been.

Having a year off could end up being a blessing in disguise if fans notice the absence of the game and get more excited to see the teams meet the next year.

As someone not from the midwest who went to ISU in the mid to late '90s, it seemed like the schools had a commonality and proximity that would make for a great rivalry, but the buzz around the game wasn't big so I thought it was great when more attention was brought to it in the '10s.

The only protected rivalries they included are in-state ones, thats it. No one else has another in-state conference member that could even be considered a rivalry game. My guess is they probably didn't want any protected rivalries but had to do it for those few in-state schools. Does it suck to not play KSU in 2027, yeah but its really not that big of a deal in the grand scheme of things. So if we would happen to win the conference in 2027 but didn't play KSU it would somehow be diminished? I don't think so. Probably time to accept the fact that the scheduling for a 16 team conference will never be perfect for anyone and just move on and enjoy the wins when they come.

I can’t believe people actually emailed Pollard about this like it’s his fault or something. Sure, I wish KSU was on the schedule but the issue doesn’t lie with the ADs. I’m shocked he actually takes the time to read and respond to that garbage
To me it depends on what the email was. He’s pretty much our representative to the big 12, so I think it’s fair to let him know if something the big 12 did ticks you off, but I don’t think he should be attacked for it.

If the below response is real then it seems like ADs do have an influence on the schedule, not sure why they wouldn't. I'm glad people are putting some pressure on the conference, would be pretty lame to lose a historic streak like this so we can say we played Arizona once in 4 years or whatever.
I'm glad he responded but certainly doesn't make me feel any better about it...

I hope that sentence about tickets is fake. I like pollard, but he can sometimes put his foot in his mouth and that paragraph is needlessly antagonistic.

As I'm a little bit of a younger fan that bridges the different realignment periods, 32 years old, I always thought we had more of a rivalry/hatred with Nebraska and Mizzou.
I remember going to games as a kid and seeing all those Cornhuskers everywhere, we hated them so much.
Mizzou we had the Telephone trophy.
In terms of our football "rivals" historically, I'd rate them as such:
1. Iowa
2. Nebraska
3. Mizzou
4. KSU

KSU only really became a thing once NU and Mizzou left.
Even then, OSU has been a much better series between with ISU in the past 10-15 years.
Also the OSU fans HATE playing us since we ruined their dreams multiple times.
I always thought of it as Iowa, Missouri, Kansas State, Kansas. I’ve always hated Nebraska, but I think there is a difference between hating a team and them being a rival

People need to figure out the isu isn't the most amazing school to play that we all think we are.

nah id rather play teams that are in the big 12, actually. i just dont give a rats ass if we MISS ONE YEAR of playing K-STATE. omg the horror!!!
Yes, how did these people survive September 20, 1998. Did they put Cal Ripken Jr.'s picture on their dart board and shake their fists at the heavens for that? Streaks end. Be happy we don't have Farmageddon touted as the premier rivalry in the Mountain West Conference.

Sure it's not the end of the world but seems silly that it will just end. Just kinda sad a long tradition is gonna die.

When I was at ISU early to mid 2000s, no one called it Farmageddon. And it was probably the 3rd or 4th hyped of ISU’s matchups in the Big 12 North (behind Nebraska, Mizzou, and Colorado)
Pretty much this. The early 2000s is when I became a fan, and KSU was just another game. Our biggest rivals were Iowa and then Nebraska, though Husker fans didn’t share our feelings of it being a rivalry. There was the Telephone Trophy with Missouri, but I felt more rivalry with them in basketball, just like with Kansas. Colorado never seemed like a rival, but they did back into the Big 12 championship game after we choked the North away in 2004 and 2005.

The Farmageddon name came from some newspaper or maybe an article on the internet in 2009 or 2010 when we played them a couple years in a row at Arrowhead in Kansas City. It was a made up name for a made up rivalry. Then we had a bunch of close games against them and lost them all, often in stupid ways similar to how games against Iowa have gone under Campbell.

My take... this is no big deal. NO MATTER WHAT the B12 did scheduling wise, a group of us would be ******** like some on here are now. I like the scheduling model.

If I'm reading this right, the longest we miss any opponent is only one year. Holy cow people...
But we also could have made a schedule to protect more important matchups, and still only had a maximum of 1 year between any opponent.

Yep. Bottom line is we do not have a 4th game with Kansas State, but we do have a 3rd game with UCF. Stupid.
