Friday OT - Raining Dogs and Cats

Our pride now sits at four. That wasn't intended, but it happened. Two are ARL rescues (city cats) and two are off the farm. The farm cats are very much hiders, but just as playful and affectionate when relaxed. Our 15-year-old needs meds, and that's when they become more like dogs. When their day-to-day health depends on you events require planning ahead.

Of note, when free roaming neighborhood cats visit, which is rare, the ARL cats will scream and fight each other. (They never leave the house, except rarely supervised on our 2nd story deck.) The farm cats will cower under the bed.
We are blessed with amazing neighbors. They do daily cat care when we're gone (and send me pictures when I'm missing my kitties). The three little boys love to play with Tab & Milo (the two most social of the seven). Our almost 16 yr old Cricket gets daily vitamins (which she loves), and they do that for us as well.

I also have neighbors both here and in Florida that (say) they adore the pup and would love to watch him if we needed that.

It's good to have that option but have never done it here but have a couple times in FL (because she truly does love him, and vice versa).

It's the funniest thing. We get off the elevator on her floor (outdoor walkway) and he runs directly to her door (one of 10 units on the floor) and begs to be let in.

I prefer cats but I am allergic so we have a dog. I do not enjoy the maintenance of a dog. Growing up, dogs were outside and you just played when you wanted to. Now inside, this dog requires more attention than my 2 and 3 year old.

My cat growing up was the biggest prick but I compare him now to some of my former roommates. We coexisted and got along when we needed to.

If I put the hammer down, no animals would be in my house but the kids and wife enjoy the dog that I take out everyday while they dont don’t do a dang thing other than cuddle the damn thing.

Trying to go on a last minute trip is the worst thing about dogs. At least a cat I can leave some food and the toilet up and it won’t crap all over my house and probably be happier we aren’t there. So , I’m team cat.

Question: When your adult kids come home to visit for the holidays. etc., do they bring their dogs with them? Do they ask you or do they assume you will be ok with them in your house?
Two of our adult children have a single dog each and I can't remember if they ever initially asked if they could bring their dog or not, but my wife and I both love dogs so we are happy to have another furry baby visit if it means we get to see our children and grandchildren. Makes for a full, but awesomely happy house.

I should have added - I also love mini lop-eared rabbits. I've had two rabbits for many years, and they're great pets. You can let them out of their cage, as they can be litter-trained. If you are lucky with the rabbit's personality and very diligent, you can get them so cuddly they'll sleep on you.
