Friday OT #2 - Like Will Smith Pre-Slap

I think there are people saying 'no' to Tom Hanks thinking the question is solely on his acting. I don't love his acting either but as a PERSON there is literally no reason anyone can say he's an *******. You may not like his acting. You may not think he's funny. But not a nice person? You're gonna have to show receipts on that and explain.

Tom Hanks
I've never had a problem with Hanks as an actor but I know people who think he's the greatest actor in history and it just kind of baffles me. He's one of those actors who seem to carry over characteristics/traits/idiosyncrasies from role to role to role, whether its the way he talks or physical mannerisms or whatever. Vince Vaughn is a more extreme version of this, plays basically the same dude in most of his movies. Obviously Hanks is light years beyond VV in my opinion, but I'd never put him at the level of a DD Lewis, Sean Penn, Cate Blanchett, Christian Bale who literally transform into the character they're playing.

I'll wait to see your reasoning @carvers4math. Truly curious how anyone can hate Tom Hanks as a person.

Was this the comment about not going to the angels and demons movie?
It was something connected to one of those movies. Maybe you don’t think people should be upset but not caring about it if they are doesn’t make you Mr. Nice

As a member of the same faith community as you (I’m pretty sure). I don’t see what the issue with his comments was. I couldn’t find anything explicitly saying “I don’t care” just “if you don’t like it, don’t go.”

Either way, while I’m not saying your feelings are invalid, I also don’t think it means Tom Hanks isn’t as universally liked as possible. In the same way as if Mr. Rogers was once mildly rude to someone and that person didn’t like him, it wouldn’t mean Mr. Rogers wasn’t as universally liked as possible.

There are plenty of Catholics who hate him if you delve into social media, some of which is pretty ugly. I dislike him and found his acting monotonous before the comments he made.
