Do you have a favorite artist, or a period of their art? It can be sculpture, dogs playing poker, whatever.

I love, love, love Picasso's Blue Period, and this is a masterpiece of his: LINK I saw it at the National Gallery of Art in DC in high school, and it was awe-ing.

I saw a few Caravaggios in Italy a couple of weeks ago, and they are amazing to me how he defined and mastered chiaroscuro (the use of light and shadow). Here was one that's at the museum adjacent to the Capuchin crypts (which are fascinating in themselves): LINK The Sistine Chapel was amazing and a masterpiece, but looking at it and then a Caravaggio, the level of detail is just different.

I can't see a Kandinsky without it putting me in a good mood: LINK He is a favorite. I also love the whole practice of pointillism, and Monet is a favorite.

Who do you like?

I like De Stijl art. I can't name any artists or any pieces - I just dig the way it looks.

Mondrian is a master! It's very bright and fun (most often), and reminds me sort of the art deco era.

You're damn straight I do.

One little trip to Italy and now you're just so cultured!

I've always liked Monet and when we were briefly in Paris last year, we saw a good chunk of his paintings at the Musee d'Orsay. So pretty to look at. I also like Van Gogh's stuff before he got weird. There was a line to see Starry Night. Definitely worth it.

Fragonard. I love the dresses the women wear, and the little details like the girl kicking off her shoe on the swing, or the pup watching the girl carve initials on the tree. I discovered his work through needlepoint, of all things. These are two of the ones I've completed.

Spending some time in southern France(Arles) and Amsterdam this fall, seems like I should know something about Van Gogh. Unfortunately, I don't.

How long was the line to see Starry Night? We're going to NY this summer and are considering visiting the MoMA because Starry Night is my oldest daughter's favorite.

Never had you pegged as a Rococo afficionado. My favorite Fragonard is due to the ridiculous (and funny) title...
Happy Accident of the Swing.jpg

I guess you did mention it above, however the happy accident in the title wasn't about the shoe.;)

Heh...I know so little about art history that I don't even know what Rococo indicates! I just know what I like...and I like his paintings. :D

Anything from the Renaissance peaks my interest. Also love the Sunday in the Park painting.

Recently have really gotten into statues/sculpture. Something about it captures history for me. One recently discovered and like was of John Marshall. If you're a House of Cards fan, you'll recognize it.

Haha - no, I've always been a big art fan. I just hadn't seen a Caravaggio or Michelangelo up-close before! I studied some in college.
