Who is/are your favorite writer(s)? It can be anyone from someone who is featured regular on Cracked.com to an 18th century Russian novelist. Who makes you think, or laugh, or you just like their style?

I'll just say I'm disappointed after the potential of the title.

This one is hard for me, as I have a butt-ton of favorite authors. So, I'll pick a few:

- JD Salinger. I think every teenager should read the breadth of Salinger's work, particularly Catcher In the Rye. It doesn't resonate on the same personal level as much as I get older, but the writing is just impeccable, and captures thought patterns so well.

- Jane Austen. I'm a big fan of classical Brit lit, and she's the queen.

- Kurt Vonnegut. His loss was deep and real. One of the great satirists, and had a way of making dystopia fun.

- Chuck Palahniuk. All of his work is fascinating, including Fight Club. He has a very clever writing style, very interesting. Always takes on sort of a writing tic with each book that makes it interesting.

- Christopher Moore. Very interesting contemporary author, and it's hard for me to find many current authors I like. Writes everything from vampire novels to reworking Shakespearean plays.

HST has always been my guy but it really doesn't get any better than Mark Twain.

My husband is a big, big Thompson fan. I admittedly have never read any of his longer pieces, just a couple of articles.

F. Scott Fitzgerald wrote beautifully. His prose is my favorite to read. I really like Kurt Vonnegut as he has a real sense of humor in his writing that offsets the seriousness of the subject matter.

I like your husband. If you haven't already you should check out 'The Great Shark Hunt', it's a collection of his writings over the years, articles, letters, essays, etc. Easy to get through in small chunks and probably my favorite HST book. Brilliant, hilarious stuff.

Fitzgerald really did have a gift. I'll be honest - I don't particularly like any of the characters in Gatsby much, but I have to read it every so often just because it's so well-written.

I'll definitely do that! I would be absolutely shocked if it's not already in our house. While I enjoy novels, I also like collections like that - it was easy to read when traveling, when you might not get a dedicated chunk of time to read.

The author that ignited my passion to read in junior high was John Jakes with his bicenttenial series. Over the past twenty years it's been Tom Clancy. He has a great way of developing a story.

Many of the ones I enjoy have been mentioned already but, to think a little outside the box, I enjoy much of Aaron Sorkin's work : The West Wing; A Few Good Men; The American President, etc are extremely well-written IMO.
