Worst AD in my lifetime. But he did do one good thing by bringing Beth onto the staff so she could take over.
In my lifetime I would add Forest Evashevski to that list of worst AD. He shares that title with Barta. Evy really set back Iowa football for a generation.
Beth will be OK for Iowa. Her big issue is whether Iowa is in the middle echelon in the Big 10 or bottom. The other looming one is replacing Ferentz. That will make or break her in my humble opinion.
Replacing KF will be a defining hire for her. I'm sure she'll knock it out of the park. My concern is that she'll eventually move on to a better AD opportunity. She's young and talented, she's going to have many opportunities.

It's funny how much strong, smart, talented females in positions of power bothers you. Lol.
He took Iowa to the Rose Bowl and I kid you not didn’t want his successor to do the same. They had 20 years of non winning seasons because of him. A lot of kids my age became Iowa State fans because the the Cyclones had a cool coach (Johnny majors) a cool announcer ( Pete Taylor) while Iowa had a winless coach (Frank Lautabeur) and a drunk for announcer (Jim Zabel).
I am not sure she will hit it out of the park. Ferentz will want a say and may throw a monkey wrench into it. The other thing is let’s say Kirk has a couple of poor seasons. At what point does she “nudge” him out and how does she nudge him out? The transition will be full of landmines and I am not sure she will be able to navigate through it.
I'm sure Beth will take any input KF may have on the next HC under advisement, but it won't matter. Why would she allow herself to be swayed on who to hire by the outgoing HC? She won't. It'll be her hire. And I don't see any way she nudges him out. He'll be able to leave when he wants and she'll let him. Forcing him out would be suicide for her and she's too smart to do that.
This story is pretty layered to many people who worked with her in the athletic department. At the end of the day Barta fumbled this for many reasons.
I actually have nothing against Goetz. She’s done nothing wrong in her job and jury is out with her only hire. She fired Fran and that was going to be done by whoever was there, tried to hire Devries and got McCollum. Time will tell if that worked out best for Iowa. Right now McCollum has a big advantage over Devries in year 1.
I don’t know why it bothers you so much that McCollum wasn’t her top choice. If Rogers is successful at Iowa State I’m not going to lose any sleep that he was Pollards second choice. Weird thing for you to get worked up about.

You don't think women's sports are "real" sports I guess I just assumed you don't think women ADs are "real" ADs.
No big deal, I have an uncle who's like you and doesn't think women's sports are "real" sports. He also has a problem with women in positions of leadership. So to be clear you're ok with women leading athletic departments just not trying to play sports?
