Fire Mouser

I'm still wondering why they don't dive with Rocco if they're OK with him running around for higher intensity collision risk.

They tended to be very successful at short yardage with it and lately it's gone back to pissing around.

The defense lacks dudes in a major way.

When I think of the best big 12 teams: BYU, Utah, ASU, etc - and then I think about Linebackers or DL that we have that would start there.
Kooper Ebel LB, probably.
There would be exactly ZERO defensive lineman we have that would start for high end Big 12 D's.

We have to totally retool and develop more guys there.
This post will probably not go well but here is goes....

Matt has tried to do exactly with Kirk is doing in IC. I would love to have what they have currently. Iowa is a developmental program just like ISU. Watch the defense, when an I lineman or LB hit you you stop. Yesterday the ASU offense was getting 3-4-10 yards after contact. I have zero confidence in our punt/kick coverage or return game. Its a strength in Iowa City. I agree we lack dudes on D, however there might be a couple dudes on the shelf right now, hopefully to return next year.

We need more big time RB's. It's not fair for Hansen to carry the ball like he is. Honestly he might be a better RB2 than RB1? I'm glad people are not calling for Matts job, the coordinators jobs are always going to be highly sensitive positions.

Worst play call, 1st and goal from the 8 and 2 running plays gain 6. Why not two more running plays?
Remember last year at Iowa, Iowa did the same thing an we won the game. To your point, you can get to cute, this is a mans game go get yard under center!!

The spike on 1st down was ridiculous on the last drive. And we're really getting too cute in the red zone. Rocco maybe has an injury we do not know about, but let him run it in or tush push or whatever...

With how bad this offense struggles in the red zone, spiking the ball to give you 25% fewer chances to score was the worst call of the game. There was a defensive timeout the play before, how on earth did they not have a play already called? That spike saved us, what, 3 seconds?

For as many execution errors yesterday, there were an equal amount of blunders by the coaching staff.

We also allowed ASU run about 30 seconds run off the clock by not calling a TO instead of letting it run down to the 2-minute time out.

What's the difference between 1st and 10 with 2:30 on the clock (ISU 2 TO's, 2-minute TO) versus 1st and 10 with 2:00 on the clock (ISU 3 TO's)? We lost 30 seconds of playing time there by not using our TO's on the plus side of the 2-minute break.

Rocco can't pass accurately and he's either not willing or not allowed to run. He is ranked #11 in B12 passer rating. He is ranked #23 in B12 QB rushing. We need a QB that is equally capable running or passing. In ISU's 4 losses: 398 yds opponent QB rushing vs 28 yds Rocco rushing. A running QB is a huge offensive asset that we can't contain defensively and we can't utilize offensively.

You are wanting to fire the wrong coordinator

You're mad at Heacock? His defense gave up 24 points and got 3 turnovers. With a competent offense that'd win a lot of games.

The offense not being able to score 20 points is pathetic.

I am not sure who came up with the offensive game plan but it was horrible from a passing perspective. We ran at least 2 TE's most of the time and ran long developing routes. IMO not a good combination and easy to defend. If you want to run long developing routes you need to do it with more WR's.

I will give credit to the running game though. Most of the time ASU had 8 guys within 10 yard of the LOS and we still ran the ball. However, the coaches need to trust guys more, in the first half every time Lee came in he was a decoy. They finally gave him a couple carries in the 2nd half and he had some good runs.

The original premise of the spike made sense but since the refs were holding things up it was odd that some sort of call wasn't made to at least try something since clock stoppage was already accomplished.

I can't put a lot of blame on Mouser. Many of his plays, I see the vision of what was supposed to happen/what the idea was, but there are frequently execution problems in the way.

I get tired of the 2 and 3 TE sets also, this group of TEs is good but not "carry the team" good, but I again think I get why they try it -- it's probably the about the best 11 guys they can put on the field. It's just not enough. OC has to contend with the talent on the field and that seems to be a problem this year.

The last time ISU won a football game, Becht attempted 20 passes and ISU scored 39 points. Since then, Becht has attempted 48, 33, 36, and 36 passes, ISU has lost 4 games, has scored 30 points one time, and has failed to break 20 points twice. In the five ISU wins, Becht attempted 28, 20, 27, 25, and 20 passes.

In those four losses, ISU averaged 4.2, 6.4, 5.4, and 4.7 yds per rush. Becht's QBR in the four losses has been 48.9, 35.8, 35.4, and 38.0. So...recently, passing has been not so good, while rushing has been pretty good. Maybe pass less and rush more? I don't know...

This. And I’d rather move on from the QB coach first. I’m not sold on Mouser, but not ready to fire him yet either. I wish we still had Nate instead though.

How many years have we been asking for a good run blocking OL? We finally get one and the OC is too stupid to run behind them for 3 straight games now

but we are playing from behind a lot thus the need to throw the ball. Plus we have run two minute drills at the end of halfs and games. If we go up 24-7 against BYU instead of throw that pick in the second Q, I'm sure they would have run a lot more in that game. In the Cincinnati game we were down a lot and had to go to the air.

They've been behind much more of the last 4 games so more passing is going to result since they're pressing to get chunk yardage/quick scores, especially late.

Vs. AZ they were able to jump out and also had some short fields to work with.

Receivers catching the ball several times makes a lot of this look better.
