I don’t have a strong opinion either way, but it does seem like this year we have had a ton of slipping for both teams. Less for us, which should be expected.

I agree it's likely a night game / dew issue. Not sure how you would combat that. Heaters in the field to increase the dew point at field level? We've only had, what, two home afternoon games this year? And Tech it rained before and during. So probably only one game where the field was really dry.

I want to keep the grass. But as it's our field, we should know the conditions better and have the right cleats on before kickoff. Make it an actual advantage rather than both teams slipping around.

The thing that has surprised me when rushing the field is how hard the field is packed. I’m guessing the cleats don’t penetrate very well

I don’t think it’s a dew issue. Guys aren’t slipping on top of the grass. Guys are bringing up big divots when they slip.

But I’m with you, I’d hate to swap it out.

Our field "looks" way better than just about every other grass field in the country, just look at the BYU field right now, but slipping definitely has been an issue.

I will also never understand why college fans and coaches seem to prefer turf but the NFL coaches and players prefer natural grass and borderline demand it when a new stadium is built. NFL teams go to insane lengths so they can have a grass field indoors.

NFL it is about injuries. I believe NFLPA is a factor here.

It's cool to be proud of having a real grass field. But if you watched that game tonight (and the previous 3 home games) and didn't come away thinking that the field is a ****** surface to play on, you are in denial. Sorry
Its not denial if you think it is just a part of the game of football...

I watched a lot of football tonight. Wasn't noticeable in any game but ours.
Did those other fields feature a disproportionate amount of rain and night games the last several weeks?

Heck tomorrow when you're watching NFL games see what those (predominantly grass) fields look like.

The NFL is able to invest a lot more in their fields, most notably in the heating systems that have miles upon miles of tubing keeping the field warm.

I watched the Colorado game today and their grass looked terrible, brown spots all over, just not good, but didn't see a single player slip.

I don't remember anyone complaining about the turf during the day games this year so maybe it is the night games being the problem. Still seems like something more than that to me though.

Maybe they did, but we're better able to cope with it?

That's cool but NFL players prefer grass right now compared to turf. There was a NFL players poll this year on what stadium has the best field and the number one answer was any field that had natural grass. Pretty wild really

Its not wild at all. They prefer not to get hurt, so they naturally prefer grass.

With TV dictating more night games for big games and ISU being more likely to be picked for some of those night games in the new Big XII...maybe there needs to be a conversation about a turf surface.
