Just announced the UNI will host Colorado State for the Missouri Valley/Mountain West Challenge.

Game is November 14 in Cedar Falls. Larry's first visit to the state to coach since 'The Incident'

Actually he coached two games in Iowa city in either his first or second season at southern miss. Didn't play iowa in either game though.

I think he's been back quite a bit since his kids lived in Ames for a bit after he left town.

And was very well-received by those in attendance!

Yea, we were there and it was nice to see the standing ovation he received. Always thought fondly of LE. He still has done what no other coach has done winning the conference back to back. Glad our program is in good hands today to challenge that.

I think I still have a Larry Ball t-shirt and Adidas turtleneck from my college days stashed away in the basement somewhere. I don't care what anyone says, to this day Larry is still one of the best coaches we have ever had and it's a shame he didn't get a chance to redeem himself in Ames after the incident. While I don't excuse Larry's actions I do blame Bruce Van De Velde for not doing something about it before it blew up in our faces because he was well aware of not only the photos but the behavior going on before it ever escalated to what it did. We all know know now just how bad of an AD he was in other areas of his responsibilities too now. I've met Richard Evans who played for Larry and casually talked with him about his playing days at ISU and he said everyone knew Larry had a drinking problem and pretty much anyone associated with the team and some of the local establishments Larry would frequent knew it. The fact that so many people failed Larry by not addressing it and encouraging him to get some help before it got to the point it did is just sad.

In hindsight though what was done is in the past and everyone is probably better off because of it. Larry has cleaned up his life and enjoys where he is at and ISU basketball is stronger than ever so that's all that is important for everyone in present day.

It sounds silly but that day was when I could finally put the LE stuff behind me. Healing is really over dramatic, but it was like a small version of healing for me.

And I am sure LE felt that way as well! I am sure that he was nervous about that...and then we showed him our love! Great day for him and ISU!

Our football team has Oklahoma State in Ames that day. I suppose it's doubtful the timing will work out so I can go to both.

Yep, BVDV was not a good AD or leader. I know there are some people that don't care for JP or make fun of some of the things that he does or says from time to time, but it is nothing compared to the incompetence that BVDV demonstrated. I am very thankful for our current leadership. I know it can be much worse.

During the Barry Stevens fundraiser, I overheard Larry talking about how much different it was in Hattiesburg, particularly in terms of the big deal that basketball was in Ames and what a small deal it was there. He got treated more like a celebrity in Ames on his return for the fundraiser than he did coaching at his own stadium.

I bet he has several people there in Cardinal and Gold.... No way that doesn't happen.
