Envy

Also I was looking at the ISU wrestling schedule this year and ASU was apparantly the first home meet since mid december and only the third meet this year. That seems strange.

I don't see wrestling as a dying sport. I just don't think all that many people are interested in it in general. Most people see it as two guys rolling around on a mat in tight outfits. They have no idea what goes into it and see it as boring. If Iowa started to do not so well, they eventually wouldn't be pulling in 15k for meets. They'd just be ****** and talk about the good ole days as we do. I think if consistent success comes back to ISU, we will get fans back. However until we prove that we can be the dominate program in the state, we will have fewer fans. There just are not enough fans of wrestling in general to go around. Just my opinion.

The "wrestling is a dying sport" debate has been hashed out (and debunked) many times on here and don't feel like getting into it again.

You claim volleyball has a much larger national following yet the highest attendance figure was 6,600 (Hawaii who was also the only school above 5,000) and even at a school like PSU that has a great volleyball program the wrestling program doubles the attendance of the volleyball program.

ISU averaged just above 2,500 fans for volleyball which was a top ten figure. Even as down as the ISU wrestling program is they average more than that.

My point was that wrestling, like hockey or women's basketball are alike in that they have huge followings at certain schools, and are irrelevent at others.

But if you really want to dive in to the attendance numbers of volleyball vs wrestling you have to get all the way down to #30 on the volleyball list to match up with what #10 is on the wrestling list.

And since you want to pick schools to talk about then you will see that schools like Nebraska, Minnesota, Illinois, Wisconsin, etc. all average more at volleyball than wrestling.

Watching two sweaty dudes together on the mat is gross. I prefer chicks in volleyball shorts.

Good for Iowa. Our state needs to be continue to be known for wrestling, and I'm happy they are making up for us.

So that means what? That you enjoyed watching dudes in 7th grade only or that was the only time you liked the butts of women?

Uh no. What it means is that 7th grade is about the time I stopped getting into "wrestling is gay" and "I'd rather dribble balls than grab them" arguments.

If you tell people about Iowa first thing comes to mind is wrestling. Not football or any other sport and that's all that Iowa is known for. So no matter how bad a wrestlng program is doing in Iowa, people still see Iowa as the nation's wrestling capital. And that they will always find away back to the top, because that is Iowa wrestling. I could careless if anyone watches, just as long as ISU wins and gets back too where they belong. On TOP!

If we get back to the caliber we were at/better we will break the attendance record..........until then no........we need a coach to recruit and devlope tallent........KJ can do well with good WR's...buy he can't make them and he needed to learn to recruit them.
