Elf on the Shelf

I was so happy when that thing was put away for good. It was supposed to be something that helped keep the kids in line leading up to Christmas, but it turned into another job for the parents to do every night.

Idk the kids like it and I try to have fun with it. At no other point would I have gone out and bought spray snow tonight and did something like this.

It’s a chore some nights and I wing it with some simple stuff but I’ve also amassed a collection of props over the years. After this many years, it’s still the first thing the kids look for every morning.

No way I can go with the creeper version of elf on a shelf, or Santa.

What a segue...

My wife and I just published a book, which we feel, quite frankly, puts that elf on the back shelf. And YOU are among the first to learn about this. It's a children's Christmas picture book. And, our elf's name is "Fargles". Check it out and let us know what you think: fargles.com. It's 100% legit.

Oh, and yes, between her and I we did everything, from writing to illustrations, to self publish, to copyrights, to starting the business, to trademarking, to website (which is always a work in motion). In the next week I hope to hit 1 million targets (not sales, but oh how incredible that would be if we could ).

Friends and family have already been availed of this, without knowing that we created it. The response has been incredible in terms of direct marketing as we're hitting 15% sales. We're all only a degree of separation from a child that this could really bring a smile to. We hope your children (or someone you know) have the opportunity to have fun finding Fargles this year.

Be careful, one day you’ll wake up and notice money missing from your dresser and your daughter’s knocked up.

Every season at least 4-5 times after my wife has gone to bed I get the text "we forgot to move the elf!!"

As the one who makes all the Christmas magic happen at our house, I refused to introduce an elf. No ******* way I was giving myself an additional chore during the holiday season. Between gift acquiring and wrapping and decorating and holiday cards and theme weeks at school and gifts and cards for the teachers and making holiday treats, I'm fully tapped out.

I'm honestly disappointed that my younger two kids haven't figured it out. I feel like they should be smarter than that...

My older two know and have had fun getting up early to move it which has been wonderful.

The worst. The absolute worst. Could not have been more thrilled when my kids aged out of this.

I think I was happier for that than I was when we bought our last box of diapers. Our youngest probably held on a few years too long, but it's gone now and I don't miss it AT ALL.

We have Rosie the Elf. My oldest figured out that we move it but is being a good sport and not spoiling it for younger sister this year. We don't do anything crazy with it other than move it around to different places in the room and maybe on occasion write a note if behavior has been bad or something. Today she is hanging from the ceiling fan and left a note with a box of Elf on the Shelf cereal for breakfast. When we put our tree up later this week she'll probably be sitting on top of the tree the next morning. We have these metal reindeer decorations we put out on our mantle that she will probably be riding on 1 at some point too.

This is how I feel about it, too. It's something the kids enjoy, and only happens ~25 days for what, 10 years per kid? A LOT of what we do as parents is a chore, but it's limited & well worth it to me.
