Dwayne Pierce Stepping Away From The Team

This is normal stuff. You getting thrown into crazy workouts with 24 year old dudes in a cornfield a million miles from home.

It’s not for everyone. There are going to be guys that leave.

Wondering if this open scholly is being addressed by TJ. Are there transfer possibilities? Is it too late? One player gone , another (Jefferson ) injured , and Rock unproven. Might be cutting it close IMHO.

I doubt it. Jefferson should be ready Rock is depth. I don't see us getting a rotation guy this late without breaking the bank.

The top 8 rotation was set prior to Pierce leaving. Really liked Dwayne as a development prospect but he wasn't factoring into this years rotation likely so there isn't a need to get a rotation player this year.
Only type of player I could see the staff bringing in is another development transfer or outside possibility of a reclassify prep to redshirt. Doubt either would happen but we didn't know about Rock getting added to the roster until late July/August last year so possible.

Nobody is 24 on the current team. I'd venture a guess that Curtis may be 23 or turning 23 this year at some point, but everyone else would be younger. Heise is our last covid eligible guy I believe, he'll get one more season after this one.

Edit: Dishon Jackson and Brandton Chattfield would both potentially be turning 23 this season as well and Jackson will have the option of one more season I believe.

Redoing the Rock playbook... bringing in Moore, Batemon, or Mitchell on a development redshirt... would be fine if any of them are interested in foregoing their "traditional" senior year like that.

Saving it for the VERY rare midyear (e.g., Tre King that one time) is viable.

Looking at the roster now, the most obvious need to me is a backup/developmental PG. Maybe not for this season, but you lose Gilbert and who knows maybe Tamin will be ready for the NBA.

Having somebody to spell the Point God then take over for him would be advisable.

Funny thing I think that was supposed to be Pierce. I thought he was recruited as a PG to Ames.

Any word on Fish? I liked what I saw of him last year.
