I never said it's OK (to be dumb enough to get caught at all let alone four times); just that it's not a problem limited to the Kansas basketball team.
I think it's perfectly ok. But also I understand a coach suspending a player for marijuana use as it's obviously not going to help a players game or academics.
I'd love to hear any other school that suspended a guy for 6 games because he got busted for drugs a 4th time
I wasn't aware that either of them took any fake classes while they were allowed to continue to play for Kansas. I wasn't even aware that Diallo HAD played for Kansas yet.
I would bet that the vast majority of college players who get suspended for a "violation of team rules" are due to failing drug tests. A quick google search for "college player suspended violation of team rules" returns page after page after page after page of them.
Has Greene been suspended many times prior? I'm skeptical of him reaching 4 without some suspicion from KU fans.
I don't see a suspension listed for a first, second OR third offense in the ISU Student Athlete handbook: "First Offense The Senior Associate Director of Athletics for Student Services or his/her designee will schedule a confidential meeting with the student-athlete and the head coach to review the positive drug test results and refer the student-athlete to the medical staff for counseling. The student athlete will be required to attend a drug counseling assessment, and the counselor shall determine the appropriate form(s) of intervention and rehabilitation needed by the student athlete. Under "Third Offense" - "The student-athlete shall be permanently suspended from participating in any sports at ISU."
Under "Second Offense" - "The student-athlete will be immediately suspended for 10% of all regularly scheduled competition, including post-season competition."
I don't think it's drugs guys. He tweeted out that people shouldn't talk about what they don't know and that he "is just trying to play basketball" ie unhappy with playing time
Anybody ever thought one of the big attractions of Iowa State as Transfer U was Fred and Matt A didn't care what you smoked on your own time provided you (1) didn't get caught by somebody who did care, like the police (cough BDJ cough), (2) did what you had to do to stay academically eligible, and (3) played well. What a man does in the confines of his own home, not hurting anybody else while doing it, on his own time is his business, right?
I've always heard it is pretty widespread in the NBA, too. Maybe that's why Fred just never cared having seen world-class basketball players use it and still get the job done, just part of the "background culture" at that level and it wasn't hurting anybody. Why not run your program at the collegiate level the same way somebody runs an NBA team?

"Some suspicion?" Everyone that knows anything about Kansas basketball knows that Brannen Greene smokes pot.
And since I have not seem many ISU players even receive that punishment, my assumption is not that ISU players don't do drugs but that ISU is making sure that players aren't failing drug tests. So is that really better?
It's all just speculation. Like I said, nothing would surprise me with Greene.
