Doorbell cameras - any recommendations?

We have a side load garage and no one ever comes to our front door so I went with a Nest outdoor camera. I can set zones for it too lok at and it will tell me if anyone enters that zone. It also distinguishes between humans, sound, etc.

Just for my own curiosity, why are these so popular all the sudden? Do people really think that there is a high likelihood their house is going to get broken into or a package delivered to their house is going to get stolen? I honestly don't understand the popularity of these.

I also thought these seemed like a silly extravagance, but a few months ago someone started prank ringing our doorbell late at night. It hasn't stopped so voila, I'm in the market for a solution.

I often wonder if these little gems get stolen. At $200+ each they are probably more money than the package they are protecting.
