So basically, coaches need to recruit everyone on their roster every single offseason now. Every single player will explore their options, and coaches need to sell them on returning. It’s a crazy world, but I don’t blame the players at all honestly.

Nothing is stopping someone from offering them, other than if a player is considering offers, one that is more restrictive is less attractive.

Part of the reason is that coaches want the flexibility to jettison any players not worth keeping without having to use resources for a buyout. The tradeoff being having to recruit the players you do want every year.
