Dominick Nelson vs. Andrew Rohde

Nelson is a taller, longer Keyshon imho. A guy who can get to the rim anytime - no matter how improbable or inadvisable it appears to be.

Nelson I think being bigger can finish more 'traditionally', where Keyshon just had all those ludicrous tricks at the rim to get the ball in the basket.

Leroy Jenkins is a great comp for both of them :)

And you need that guy, whether he finishes or not, it forces defenses to help and recover and not just guard the perimeter all the time.
LEEEERRRRROOOOYYY JENKINSSSSS!!!

Nelson has good length and versatility. His length is a benefit on defense. His ability to handle the ball is huge with Tamin’s injury. At tfimes he is a little out of control going to the basket, but it seems to fit on this team.
Of all the traits I think about Nelson, his ability to handle the ball is not one of them. He is great as a slasher from the wing, but as a back up PG I would almost rather see Kelderman come off the bench if Tamin or Toure aren't available.

Nelson probably shoots too much. Kind of a black hole. But, this team probably needs someone that aggressive. If he can play defense just a little better he’s going to be a major asset off the bench.
He actually played good defense in Vegas, the downside which will appear in conference is his inability to hit the trey. Defenders will sag of him protecting the driving lanes. Good point re: him being somewhat of a black hole right now with his over-dribbling. Hurts the flow of the offense.

Ball handling in a vacuum is one thing. Having the athleticism to beat a press is every bit, if not more important. Kelderman doesn’t have the athleticism to guard at this level or handle serious pressure as a primary ball handler. Nelson has proven himself capable in both regards at the Players Era. Now he’s got to keep adjusting to his role. He was really good defensively, esp vs Syracuse. It’s why he’s playing more minutes than anyone of the 6 guys that have started. Not sure that holds up over time as the Fr develop and Tamin comes back, but so far Nelson has earned the minutes.
