I know we will have George returning, who has really been great, but after that we have Miller, Morgan and the 2 true freshmen.... To me that is not much depth, I think we have to get a JUCO and at least one or 2 freshmen in the class. The number of transfers who have left from this position group has not helped the cause, Pavlenko, Donald smith, Morgan, Pate, Adrian Bennett, Princeton Jackson......

I'm just sitting back this season and having a blast watching two All-Americans play LB for the Cyclones. I'll worry about next year come January.

College athletics are about never-ending turnover. Will we have one of the best LB duos in the country next year? No, probably not.

As long as Wally Burnham is running this defense, I don't think you should be too worried about much.

We are barely halfway through this season.
I anticipated a response like this. When 2 of the 3 main LB's are SR it has me a little concerned about the future.... This has always been a position that has hinged our success.

I predict a losing season, winless in the BIGXII and a loss to Iowa, simply because of this!

Don't let it bother you. CPR has done "more with less" in his four years here. He'll know what to do.

Have you seen what this staff has done with the linebacking core since coming here? Making names for little known guys out of high school. Jesse Smith, AJ Klein, Jake Knott and the list goes on. In a word no, Miller, Broomfield and George will be fine. George has come into his own this year and will be even better next season.

I need to see a class/scholarship breakdown before i get too , but youll never replace K &K

I'm more worried about the LB's in 2 years. But the main reason for the worry is we have 2 guys who never miss a play and we haven't seen much of the younger guys. I think when we get to see these guys play regularly there won't be much to be scared about.

If Rhoads was that worried about it dont you think we would see an influx of JUCOs even starting last recruiting season? I am not worried about our defense with the Wally and Shane in charge on that side of the football and Rhoads being a defensive mind. Worry about improvement next season at the quarterback position or the offensive tackle position.

If I could help I would.. but CPR is paid seven figures to think about things like this. IMO the guys we have now cannot be replaced. Let's get the O to not waste the opportunity as it has twice so far...

Klein and Knott really have shined since they were sophomores. Who's to say the team doesn't have a couple more in the wings waiting for their chance to shine.

I am the biggest Knott and Klein fans there are but lets not jump off a cliff here. I am sure the staff or is already in the process with the young guys in making the next great set of linebackers. I also never thought there would not be another Ace Bowen or Jesse Smith or Leonard Johnson or Tim Dobbins or David Sims but this staff continues to put the next man in and continues to improve defensively. I am sure the first few games next season we will see a drop off at linebacker, but I doubt the productivity drops for long.

Hodge may move to LB, Luke Knott may move to LB, some of our smaller and quicker DE's may move to LB.
