Deck stain/sealant suggestions

If there is a solid stain to use it is cabots, most likely the deck was not prepped properly which caused the stain to fail early.
But that is the thing with film forming stains. They don't wear off like a semi transparent oil does. They chip off which is why the film forming stains should be completely removed each time you apply to give the best results
Hey cytech, do you have any suggestions about staining concrete, would like a textured look, already have a mixed arraignment of cuts in it... thanks
I don't do that type of work at all. but I know others who do. And what you are looking for is a concrete overlay. It is a thin top coatings that goes over the concrete, that can be colored any color. You can also mask off parts to make different patterns to look like bricks, tiles, or stones.
You see it alot in new strip malls they have a concrete overlay put on and color it.

But this website Decorative Concrete - Training Seminars - Synthetic Rock and Concrete Overlay - Puretexture.com is a company that trains people how to do it and sells some of the best products for doing it. You can get some idea's of what can be done from their site. I imagine that if you contact them they might be able to put you in touch with someone that could perform the job for you.

I've read to make sure it's dry for 48 hours straight. Is this enough? The wood I used to build the steps seemed to have quite a bit of moisture in it, not to mention the amount of water came out of my power washer today... ugh.

New wood should sit atleast 30 days to let the moisture content lower. The amount of time you need to wait to stain a deck all depends on the product you use. There are some stains such as wood tux that you can apply to wet wood. But it is best to wait atleast 3 days but you are better off to wait closer to a week.
You will want to wash the entire deck with a sodium percarbonate based cleaner you can get it at the sealer store. Then you will want to get some of the citric acid based neutralizer. Do this will make your new wood blend in better with the old and help the wood accept the stain better.
