Decision Time on Jackson

How much different would our finish have been if Moreno hadn't had a dislocated shoulder?

If Gadson wins, he stays. If Gadson loses, he goes.

(and for anyone who doesn't get the jimlad, I'M JOKING!)

If he'd wrestled to seed not much, maybe 1 position higher unless he had scored a lot of bonus. The big thing that ended up costing us the top ten were Weatherman losing that first match and Hall & Moreno losing last night. Hall and Moreno both lost in the R12 but we got 7.5 points out of Moreno compared to 2 for Hall because of his pins on the backside. Moreno really bounced back from that early loss and it sucks he ended up with Jordan in the R12.

A valid question, sure. But not coming from someone who has any interest in discussion. But instead somebody who posts exclusively when things go poorly (go check how many comments they have when we lose vs. when we win), who has at various times openly admitted to really being a Hawk/Panther fan, and has been openly calling for Jackson's head ever since he was hired.

Nobody is gonna revolt if tommorow Trent Paulsen or somebody else was introduced as our head coach. But NEICyfan would be popping champagne. The guy just hates Jackson.

Basically none of this is true. But keep spewing the same crap over and over again without addressing the issues at hand. Very productive. :realmad:

I have nothing against KJ. I just do not think he's a good coach. I was not excited by the hire but I don't think I was negative about him until things started to slide.

I feel for Hall and Moreno. They should have been AA's, but that's life. Hopefully Hall bounces back next year. Moreno had a nice career and it is tough to see it end like that.

Who would you hire?

Who would you try to hire?

Gadson and Moreno scored most of our points this year but as long as we don't crash at NCAAs again we shouldn't have any kind of drop off next year unless Hall takes an Olympic redshirt. Hall, Gabe, Lelund, and Tanner should all score points. Dante should be able to make progress from being an up and down guy to being more consistent (like Hall did this year), Boston & Harrington should hold there own but it is to early to project whether we'll get points out of them. It isn't like this was a peak year that we have to spend a decade rebuilding from.

Off topic, but I am planning to join the Cyclone Wrestling Club next year. When can I join for the fall season?

Guys I never post when things go well and when things go poorly I follow an identical pattern of some halfhearted compliment posts followed by trashing everything I don't understand why no one likes me. Please advise.

What does UNI have to do with this?

FYI: The #1 197 pound recruit in the country last year wrestles for Ohio State and is going for the championships tonight. Harrington was a good recruit. I wish we had more of him.

Gadson is a Jackson recruit! He's in the finals tonight if you've forgotten already! No one on the coaching market would make more sense right now than Jackson. He is showing he can get it done with his own recruits and the team is making a steady climb. Sure there are holes when you lose multiple year starters of AA caliber, but every team goes through this.

I like the recruiting classes he's brought in, and as much as I hate to keep saying give him more time, we aren't getting anyone better, so give him more time.

His recruiting is no where near elite level. Some good kids but not nearly enough of them. I don't understand people who say "we aren't getting anyone better." How could you possibly know this and what are you clinging to?

I would support any of the following realistic candidates to replace KJ. And probably others.

Damian Hahn - Cornell assistant. A huge reason for their success.
Cody Sanderson - Wants his own program at some point and will do it at a place where a title CAN be won. This would be a huge hire for ISU and my #1 candidate. I think the fans can forgive him for leaving with Cael. Not sure about JP.
Drew Pariano - Northwestern head coach. My number #2 candidate. Fantastic recruiter but will never be able to build enough depth at NU, with their limitations, to be a serious title contender. He won't have that problem in Ames.
Brandon Eggum - Minnesota assistant. Has to be wondering how much longer J is going to hang around. Is there a succession program in place?
Travis Paulson. From what I gather he's doing the majority of the coaching in the ISU room. Has his own ideas. Not one of my favorites but I would support the move and think we would be better off.
Eric Guerrero - See Eggum, though Smith has more years left than J.
Tim Flynn - Edinboro. Might be getting a little long in the tooth but maybe he hands over the reigns in a few years to a younger understudy like Paulson?
Mark Perry - Illinois. Yes, I said it.

These are the ones that I've been thinking of. Certainly there are more candidates. We have seen what we will get with KJ. None of these guys would make us worse off. I truly believe that.

Could we do better? sure, somewhere out there is a Fred Hoiberg type coach that could take us right to the top. But we don't know who he is and it would be a gamble that we'd end up worse off. Could we make a safe move and go with the Paulsens? Yeah, we probably could. I doubt anyone would complain much. I know I wouldn't.

But some people continue to post like Jackson is some terrible program destroyer instead of an average to above average coach who, as a whole, has improved the wrestling program from year to year over the essentially dead program that Sanderson left behind after the 2009 senior class. Could he be better? Yes, he could. Could he be worse? Yes, we could do much, much worse than Jackson.

That's great but Gadson is just one guy. What about the other 9 weights? Having just one AA is not acceptable.

He's "showing he can get it done with his own recruits and the team is making a steady climb." What? Are you that oblivious? He's not getting it done. Finishes outside the top 10 are bad. ISU is one of a hand full of programs where an NCAA title can be won yet we are not even cracking the top 10. We aren't climbing, we are actually doing the opposite. We have regressed. 12th to 13th to 14th/15th the past 3 years.

So we basically if everyone comes through we won't be any better. Is that acceptable to everyone? Another finish outside the top 10? We are in the top 5 for attendance most every year. We are within the top 10 in facilities. We have a tremendous tradition and a great fan base.

Why are these results acceptable?

Well, in his defense, this is normal posting on the Hawkeye Boards.

Any loss? FIRE EVERYONE! HOW CAN THIS BE ALLOWED TO HAPPEN DON"T YOU UNDERSTAND WHO WE ARE!

A kid has a bad match? ATTACK THEM PERSONALLY AND DECLARE THEM WORTHLESS

Your wrestler does something that should earn them an ejection for the 10th time in a match? STANDING OVATION THAT RIGHT THERE IS A WINNER!

Somewhere out there, there is an internet provider that only works for 24 hours following a Cyclone wrestling loss.
