Maybe Dave Ramsey...."Anyone else had this happen with debit or credit card?" would be easier to answer if it was "Has anyone not had this happen?"

Exactly. It happens all the time and they often don't let you know they've been breached until months later. Then after they've let someone get access to all your personal info they offer you a free year of credit monitoring for the troubles.Seems like I get a different notice of my data being hacked from one place or another every month. I think I have received 2 separate notices from MercyOne alone in the last year that their system has been hacked and my data stolen. ISU and many other schools just had their systems hacked and shut down a week ago.
So of course they are hacking our financial info just as often.
I have resorted to the reality that my data is all over the dark web at this point, and there appears nothing anyone can do about it.
But make sure when you go to your next hair appointment that you give them your social security number, your birth day, your DL#, your first born and your wifes maiden name.... cuz they need it for their system..... and they will for sure keep it safe in their bulletproof dollar store system.... wink wink.
The above pisses me off more than anything, why so many places need so much information saved in their systems, information that has really has nothing to do with the service. But they require it for whatever service. Its absolutely ridiculous.
The fact that nothing is ever done to shut these scammers in India and Pakistan etc down is also absolutely BS.
I don't know as honestly my data has been a part of several breaches thanks to the Gov. Zero impacts so far from them. I monitor my credit a bit at least and have never seen anything weird.Another thing I would recommend everyone do is freeze their credit. You can unfreeze it when you know you're gonna apply for credit. I did this back in ~2018 when the Equifax breach happened, and it has saved me multiple times. Every couple of years I'll get a letter sent to my house saying I was declined for a new CC someone tried to open because they couldn't pull my credit.
Theoretically. But I know someone born in Iowa who has a number showing birth in New Jersey. DOT people had to look it up before approving a learner’s permit.Oh and in reality your "social security" number is really just based on the county and hospital you were born in, and the number your birth was at that point.
This is the way. That sucks. I’ve always been advised to not use debit cards at anywhere but an ATM. If your money gets stolen from your bank account, it’s a lot harder to get back than if a charge is made to a credit card. Glad it seems they caught it before it got to that point. Maybe wouldn’t have if they used smaller amounts.
