Dear Matt Campbell,

The most Iowa State thing ever would be to make the playoffs and play Ped U in the first round. Do we win or lose?

Thanks for giving us some good years and big wins.

Thanks for preaching loyalty and trusting the process.

Thanks for selling us on the journey.

Thanks for selling us that you were loyal.

Thanks for selling us hope of climbing to the top.

Thanks for being just like all the other coaches.

You don’t give a **** about the fans, the community or the players.

You really do just care about a paycheck.

You are going to a school that should’ve been demolished for the worst scandal in the history of college football.

You are going to a school that that you were at least their 5th option.

You are going to make a lot of money. You might even make a lot of money, but you’ve sold your soul for something you have told us you aren’t.

I hope you lose every game you play, even against the hawks.

I hope you swim in your cash and drown in the expectations of Happy Valley because they don’t care about anything other than winning football games.

They didn’t care about a pervert hurting children for years.

You had a good thing here.

We will be fine.

You’ll be fine, but you are not the person you said you were, and I feel stupid for falling for your schtick.

I hope you fail. I hope for nothing good to happen to you in the football world.

At least the slimeballs like Kiffin are honest on being a *****.

Man, I thought you were different Matthew, but tonight proves I was fooled.

Good Riddance and **** you.

I read in an article that Campbell had 62 one score games while at ISU, so I looked up the seasons.

2016: 3-9 in 12 games, 1-4 in one score games
2017: 8-5 in 13 games, 3-4 in one score games
2018: 8-5 in 13 games, 3-2 in one score games
2019: 7-6 in 13 games, 2-4 in one score games
2020: 9-3 in 12 games, 4-2 in one score games
2021: 7-6 in 13 games, 2-5 in one score games
2022: 4-8 in 12 games, 1-6 in one score games
2023: 7-6 in 13 games, 2-3 in one score games
2024: 11-3 in 14 games, 5-1 in one score games
2025: 8-4 in 12 games, 5-3 in one score games

Total: 72-55 in 127 games, 28-34 in one score games. So, basically half (48.8%) of his games were one score games.

Side note: CMC went 50-40 in Big 12 games, having a winning conference record in 8 out of 10 years.

My 7 y.o. son went as Matt for Halloween this year, he's really upset that Matt is leaving, and there isn't anything I can tell him that could help besides "it's just the way the world is." The way this all went down just doesn't match who we thought he was. I heard a story of when CMC was first here, he was still living in Ames, a neighbor boy came over and asked him to play catch with him, and he did. That's the kind of guy we thought he was, but that's not they guy who just walked out the door and never looked back.

I just want to know why he didn't even say goodbye. Why burn bridges with a fanbase that loved you, and supposedly you loved back? Was something said in the meeting with JP that burned him on ISU? Even still, have beef with JP, but I think Cyclone Nation deserves something from the man that they gave their heart to.

The way this all played out, the timeline, what he said at signing day compared to what he did less than 24 hours later, it feels like this wasn't his choice, like someone made it for him and he got burned. How all of his staff were upset, surprised and not ready to leave. That's what I am trying to wrestle with right now. None of this matches who we thought Campbel was. We thought he cared about his staff, his players, the fans. Nothing he has done since Thursday night corresponds with that.

We all understand why he would take the PSU job, if we were all honest, I don't think any of us would blame him, but no "thank you for the support over the past 10 years", no "good bye," makes this so much worse. Rogers even said goodbye to WS and he was only there a year, and we can't get anything from a man we supported for 10 years? I don't think I will ever have closure until I know why. Did JP get him to sign a NDA?

Someone please make this make sense.

I was thinking the same thing after the two shook hands when they first met on the field.
Campbell actually beat him for the first time in Snyder's very last college game. In a way I kind of thought it was a passing of the torch moment in the Big 12.

Just a tidbit, but Snyder will still talk highly of him, and he watches exactly 3 games every week, Kansas St, Iowa State, and Iowa.
