DeAndre Kane visiting next week

If i have to pick in May? Yes...absolutely.

Cyclonin: Not what i was saying. NOW we should be to the point where we dont need Kane, because our incoming guys, thru the buildup of the program that fred has done a great job of....doesnt require it.

Thats why i asked if we really needed this guy....and if it isnt better for Morris to just take his Gessell lumps, and we get even better as a program. Thats all. Dont think thats terribly out of line to think....but......as usual....

I'm not sold on taking Kane either.

Whoa whoa......you think Fran will be on the hotseat? You do realize they love him over there....and hes done even less than Alford did. Hotseat? are you kidding?

He has to win at some point. Everything has been built up to this year for them. If they don't perform up to expectations and fail to make the tournament, then he absolutely will be on the hot seat. That doesn't mean he'll be fired but there will definitely be heat on him.

Iowa recruits transfers too. In fact, they had one on the bench, waiting to play next year. Everyone recruits transfers. The difference is that none wanted to play for Iowa.

In fact, what highly touted recruits outside of the Iowa have the Hawks signed? Who have they brought in that isn't already an Iowa fan? Honest question... I really don't know.

Exactly. Fran has no qualms with transfers. Hubbard was all set to be a hawkeye before his unpleasantness. Now he's holed up on the East Coast somewhere probably spending time at a Waffle House.

Correction. Now he's probably on the East Coast somewhere, doing time for holding up a Waffle House. Sorry, typo.

Regardless, he was going to be a significant contributor to Fran's team a couple years ago, according to their fans, so obviously Fran is okay with the transfer route.

If they fail to make the NCAA's this coming year, yes Fran's seat will be getting warm. He won't be gone, but 2014-15 would become make or break for him.

Um. no. Iowa got a bunch of 4 year guys and played them.....including two freshman guards last year, and are in far better shape than we are currently as far as a roster. We took the instant gratification road...which isnt wrong by any means.....but now we are seeing the issue with that. You can only patch it up for so long...at some point you need to season guys and get them time, take their lumps.

In no way am i saying Fred is wrong in his approach......but there are drawbacks to this style as well.

You really are one of the worst posters here tbo...
i disagree

If he doesn't make the NCAA tourney this year he will be on the hot seat IMO. He's got the fan support, the mid major caliber players he wanted, etc...really no excuses for him anymore to not get in...you know besides lacking talent

Matty raises an interesting point, doesn't really seem trollish.

I didnt think so.....maybe we DO need Kane for that experience..i dont know. Maybe he would be better for our chances of getting to the tournament next year....probably so...absolutely so. Im just not sure i like the message it sends a kid like Morris that we recruited for years. Maybe its nothing.

Bigman: Please reference where i said Fred should sacrifice the season. Ill wait.....i just said let Morris take his lumps...thats all. Go back to your dungeons and dragons game kid.

mattyice, having an experienced roster is generally cyclical, and because of that, "I was hoping we were past that" does not make sense. I was hoping we were past posters completely missing the objective- winning.

You make it seem like Monte wouldn't play at all. I wouldn't be surprised one bit if if Monte, Kane and Thomas were all in the starting lineup together at some point this year if Kane committed.

If Fran doesn't make the NCAAs after 4 years can anyone describe it as anything but a failure? He won't be fired but he will have failed. Barring injuries, of course.

THATS...actually a great point cydkar. Maybe this is a big year for Fran.

Very true...you could be right. Im just not sure what good it does Morris to have him getting a handful of minutes while Kane plays, to maybe eek into the tournament...when he could take his lumps, and be a much better player for it. And possibly a far better team.

I mean arent we realistically either way looking to the following couple years when Georges is a jun/ sen? to make something big happen.
Go to hawkeye nation, apparently you would be happy with an NIT bid, personally, i want the best personel on the floor every year, if Kane is that guy this year, so be it. Why hang a freshman out to dry at D1 when you can get him quality experience and build his body for B12 ball without breaking his spirit? I am just so glad you bought into Fran's way of 0 NCAA births.

you guys that don't like transfers are probably not going to like Hoiberg going forward. He is always going to take the best players he can find. If he has a spot for a one year guy and he feels like that one guy for one year gives him a better team he will take him, every time. He is playing modern college hoops...and those of you that think we are still in the four year mode are going to be disappointed. He will take a one and done from HS and he will take a one and done as a transfer. It is an NBA mindset that he will assemble the best team every year that he can, always with one eye on the future. It is definitely a multitasking type of recruiting, but it is the future and I am convinced that Fred is a master of it.

Well at least you didnt show up 22 pages later without any context and start rambling something i in no way said. You got me down for the Kennedy assassination too while we;re at it?

What is this big 12 body...ive never liked that. Let him sit to get this big 12 body. Hows his body? Is he big enough? He needs to get bigger, faster, leaner...needs thats conference body. What is that exactly?

Ben Mclemore was 185 pounds, Korie Lucious was anything but rugged bruiser, Clyburn? no....Kabongo is 180, Elijah? Angel Rodriguez? I could go on and on......these were not physical speciments like Babb, Smart, etc.....they could just play. And these were the better guards in the conference.

If Morris can play...he can play.

You never answered my question. You think we should have played a highly recruited SDW this year instead of playing transfers ahead of him and redshirting him?

Well no....i mean we had 3 NBA caliber or fringe caliber players at his position or similar positions. And they had been there 2 years in the program.

Kane is coming in for one year, and unless something happens... i dont think hes on their level of our previous guards. Im just asking if thats the case...wouldnt we be better served to get Morris that time who recruiting wise...is a pretty elite player? I dont know...i think so...but i dont know.

I wasnt saying play Morris just for the sake of playing him. Not what i intended to say anyway.
