DCU (DC Universe) Thread

I'll admit I'm kind of digging this trailer. Has me intrigued for sure. David Corenswet at least looks the part. There is a lot of weight riding on this movie. In fact, one could argue the whole new DCU depends on it being really good. Still not a fan of the trunks, but oh well I guess.

It looks like there's a lot going on in that movie. I'm curious to see if it is handled well and is actually a good product or if it is some convoluted mess of characters and events that is hard to follow.

Anyone watching Creature Commandos? Really liked season 1. Probably better than both the Suicide Squad movies. I'm glad it got renewed for season 2 to wrap up some of the remaining questions.

I've still got a couple episodes left. So far I'm finding it to be ok. The team in the show is a bit too much like all of Gunn's previous work when I'm ready for something new at this point.

Gunn has a good track record with making silly stuff compelling, but this looks like it’s pushing it to me. Especially with the emphasis on Krypto that have put in the trailers. The casting seems pretty great though, Brosnahan will kill it as Lois.

Surprised no one's talking about it. Went to see Superman yesterday, had a great time. Not a perfect movie in any stretch, but a great foundational movie for the universe Gunn is setting up. Wife knows more about the DC universe than me and she loved it.

The wife and I enjoyed it. It may have been a little overstuffed with characters, but I think we're well past the solo movies for the big heroes.

We are way past the phase where Marvel could put out very average movies and fanboys/casual viewers go nuts just because their gigantic world has yet more content. The lack of negative buzz alone is massive for the movie and future DC movies.

I saw it on Friday night and I thought it was great! Def not afraid to be over "comic booky." Thought maybe a few more serious moments were undone by some humor, but overall very enjoyable.

Same, though I think that speaks to the leeway WB is giving Gunn to establish characters on their own time in the future instead of forcing exposition on each character. Figure every single one of the JG/L and Daily Planet characters will get more personal screen time.

They could have cut Cat Grant and Steve Lombard from the Daily Planet group. Honestly about the only 2 characters that were in the movie just because they were characters fans may have heard of. Cat Grant was mostly walking cleavage and Steve Lombard was there for a seat belt joke. Almost every other side character felt like they had at least some purpose.

I thought it was great honestly and I could not care less about Superman.

If Superman was stand alone, sure, but who's to say they won't have bigger roles in the future. The movie just felt like a 2 hour introduction.

the family went Thursday and we all enjoyed it. It was very comic books but in a good way. A tad over stuffed but worth it. The more I think about it the more I like it. It was like picking up a random Superman issue. Hope this leads to more success for the DCU.

Good to hear so many people enjoyed it. As much as I thought I'd be in that same group, I hate to say it, but I just wasn't. I found the movie to be too overstuffed, too silly, and not enough weight to the emotion. What you guys are calling very comic-booky, I'd agree, but the execution for me in live-action just came off as too goofy and non-grounded. Honestly, could just come down to a personal preference thing for me. Keep in mind that I think Man of Steel is one of the best comic book movies ever made even if I'm very mixed overall on Zack Snyder movies in general. Regardless, this clearly is one of those things where I might be out of sink with the masses even though I wish I wasn't.

If you liked Man of Steel you would not like this so that makes sense.

I liked Man of Steel, but I do think it fundamentally got Superman wrong in a way this one gets it right. That said, this is not a perfect movie. Personally I could have used a lot less Crypto and a lot less proton river.

My caveat is that I love Nicholas Hoult. He might be my favorite actor. I thought his Lex, Lois, and Clark were all perfectly cast.
