Cytown Update

Hilton genuinely has the worst concession stands I've ever experienced at a college/professional sports venue. Most high schools can do better.

Honestly I rarely buy any concessions at sporting events and had no idea Hilton and Trice were that bad for Concessions. Most I ever buy is a drink. The old plans to expand the Hilton Concourse would have probably helped out the concessions I am thinking. Is it the quality of the food, what they offer or just hard trying to get stuff? Just curious

I also don't get concessions much, but in my experience Hilton struggles with all of the above. Jack Trice has gotten better at all the past few seasons, though, IMO. Someone here mentioned we're replacing the main food vendor next season, hopefully that helps.

Maybe I'm just cheap, but I only have an eye toward concessions at Hilton if my schedule is too rushed to eat someplace beforehand. Usually I'm making a point to get a Clone Cone, maybe a drink, maybe popcorn/snack. I couldn't tell you what else is currently offered there.

Would I care if they sold Breaded Pork Tenderloins or Steak sandwiches for $15? Probably not. Maybe if a local BBQ vendor posted up in there I'd be more inclined to buy food at Hilton.

But you're only in Hilton for about 2.5 hours (2 hrs gametime) and sneaking out to buy any food is almost surely going to mean missing game action. As it is, I'm timing my exit to get that Clone Cone without missing too much.

Which is all to say, I am not sure it matters at all if the concessions are merely average. I'm not there to get a gourmet meal, I'm there to watch the game and probably a Clone Cone.

JTS on the other hand -- really solid food options but I'm probably missing most of a quarter if I try to grab some food during the game, even if I go during halftime. My only gripe is that service time really needs improvement.

JTS time in line is as bad as it’s ever been. Plan on missing half a quarter if you want something. Last game I got in line and waited…and waited. Got to the front and the gal said this was the line for people who already ordered. So there was a wait to order and a wait in another line to get what you ordered.

Every been to a Rockies game? Half of the stands were closed down, the rest were serving Sysco dogs/burgers.

Pretty sure market studies show there is no appetite for additional premium seating / suites in Jack Trice at this time, and no way would those other use cases you mention displace anything already available in Stark or cannibalize opportunties soon to be available in CYtown

Some of you seem to have size inferiority complexes to get over
Pretty sure they were saying the same thing about the South end zone project and complaining about how we can't fill a 56,000 seat stadium, how are we going to fill a 62,000 seat stadium. All those empty seats are going to make us look bad on TV. That was the going "logic" of the time. No matter what your girlfriend tells you, size does matter. Some of you need to look farther ahead than the end of your nose.

I’m cheap but for Hilton it is bad enough that I make it a point to eat beforehand regardless of my schedule or the time of the game. The options are hot dog (regular or cheese) or walking taco if you want a meal.

I have no idea why this can't happen:
A Chic Fil A type of vendor with sandwiches premade/wrapped.
Any pizza place in Ames with premade pizzas and just sell by the slice or sell mini pizzas.

The idea that an AD would spend something on the order of $40 million to replace a press box because some fans feel it doesn't look big time enough, is preposterous on its face and I don't know why we keep talking about it. When athletics listed their priorities for improvements in a document 10 years or so ago there was a lot of stuff on it. Press box wasn't.
Screw the added press boxes. How about building a significant canopy/shade structure over much of the stadium to shield the poor fans from the brutal sun and the freezing rain? :)

WeWill pizzas! What are we even doing!

Yes there should at least be a decent pulled pork sandwich or something. Iowa Pork Producers could have a booth and probably help make a connection with a restaurant or vendor to supply this.

That wasn't our experience this season, concessions seemed to move much quicker than prior years. The last couple games I was able to walk up with zero wait on multiple occasions. Talking the main concession stands that have pop/gatorade/pretzels/popcorn/etc.
