I don't follow the T&F closely but was reading the article on their efforts in Kansas yesterday. Emily March BROUGHT it!
ISU discus record was 176' and she threw 191'. No inching the record forward little by little, she threw 15' past the old record. That is hella impressive.

Plus Friday's huge record on the men's side:

In the field, Vlad Pavlenko went off in the men's hammer throw with another historic series. The All-American broke his school record from the Florida Relays three weeks ago three different times on Friday, with his best throw coming on his fourth throw at 237-6 (72.41m), adding nearly 15 feet to his previous personal best and school record of 222-9. At the time of publication, Pavlenko's mark is No. 4 in NCAA Division I this season.

Or how about that 4 x 800 relay team at the Drake Relays shattering the 1985 Nebraska record at Drake......too bad that relay isnt in the Big 12 meet or the NCAA meet.......do we have a shot at the Big 12 men's outdoor title in a couple weeks?....we will have to do well in the distance events 800 and up for sure.......good luck to the team and coaches......

Pretty tall order. Outdoors is heavily slanted towards explosive events where we will minimally score.
100, 200, 400, 100h, 400h, 4x1, 4x4, LJ, TJ, HJ, decathlon

And it will be hard to overcome that in these events
800, 1500, steeple, 5k, 10k, one thrower.

The caveats being that we will score multiple athletes in a lot of those distance events (but so will OSU) and the explosive events will get spread around to multiple teams. But, I see 2nd place as our ceiling and probably finish third.

Indoors is much more favorable in the big12 with the 600, 1000, and DMR adding to the slate of events while pulling away 400h, steeple

I don't follow T&F closely anymore -- how long has it been since NCAA/Big 12/8 had 4x800?

Seems like a tailor-made type of relay for ISU, historically. (I associate program with middle & distance, not sprints, I assume that's still fairly common).

4x8 has never been an NCAA event, and isn't listed anywhere in the Big 12 records.

Thanks for info. I've been paying even less attention than I thought I did, over the years.

It's too bad, I like watching 4x800, wish it was at outdoor and an Olympic relay. Probably not "popular" (certainly not like 4x1 and 4x4, understandably). I think it's done at world level but doesn't seem to be big in U.S.
