Nope. I doubt that's the guy at the basketball games I was talking about.

Well, there it is! Pat Beach wrote for the Daily while he was at ISU before he got the gig at the Register. Great find here.
I was there from '87 to '91.... still the best times of my life without question.
Was the Cyclone Ranger the guy at basketball games that had a big Cyclones flag and would run as fast as he could around the inner ring in Hilton with his flag? He was always dressed up like a Cyclone Lone Ranger.
I haven't been back for many basketball games since my time there, so maybe that's something that has always happened.... not just when I was in school there?
I come back for a lot of football games, but never basketball for some reason?
Hello Cyclone RangerApologies if this has been discussed before.
Went to school '86 - '90. During that time, there was a character on campus that called himself the Cyclone Ranger. He would randomly show up at football and basketball games, dressed with a cape and mask. The fans went crazy. But, that's not all he did! He would also do random acts of kindness around campus. I recall one time, he placed roses on a lot of administrator assistant's desks over the weekend. I think there may have been a note of gratitude signed "The Cyclone Ranger."
Anyone else remember this? Any stories you may have?
I remember seeing Zevs briefly on the NBC nightly news in 1992 or so, at the top of the program, after one of the two fence jumping incidents that happened at the White House during the Bush administration, I believe. He was right there and saw it, so they asked what he saw. It was so long ago that you question whether you remember correctly or your memory is playing tricks. But that Wiki, location wise, is consistent with my memory. Seeing him on national TV like that was like seeing Forrest Gump, it was so unusual.Bio seemed pretty goofy, then it took a hard turn at the end
There is still a guy making the upper concourse run at the games. I think it's a member of Cyclone Alley. They usually skip the cupcake pre-conference games, but run at all of the B12 games, conference challenge games & the CyHawk game. It's always during the last media time out. The band plays ISU Fights, then sings ISU Fights, then plays ISU Fights. The goal for the runner is to make the complete circuit before the third time through. You can often feel the band speeding up on the last time through. It has become such a thing that the ushers will not let people step onto the concourse when he's running so that they don't block his path.I was there from '87 to '91.... still the best times of my life without question.

A few years back one of the football players used to wear a pink plus-size ballerina costume to the games. He referred to his character as "Gladys". The blond wig went really well with his thick black beard. Every once in a while he would run w/the flag runner. Pretty dang funny.![]()
