So I've got to assume the Brands boys are going to roll out their studs this weekend, no? If you look at the lineup they put out in their first two duals, there are lots of winnable matches. Are Lee/Kemerer/Assad/Warner healthy enough to wrestle? If they don't, can we make this thing interesting?

125: Win (bonus possible) if Lee isn't going
133: Loss and bonus points here
141: Loss and bonus points here
149: Win (bonus possible) if Murin isn't going... still winnable if Murin shows up IMO
157: Win (bonus possible) - Young just isn't on Carr's level
165: Loss and bonus points here
174: Toss-up if Brands goes, loss and bonus points if Kemerer is going
184: Win - doesn't matter if it's Wilson or Assad in my mind
197: Win if Warner isn't going - decision loss if Warner goes
285: Loss and bonus points here

Lineups make duals and there are so many unknowns with Iowa's lineup right now. If they put out their lineup from the first two duals I could see us keeping it really close or even sneaking 6 wins and the dual by like a 19-18 score... I could also see their full strength lineup showing up, wrestling great and beating us like ~35-3. I would imagine unless they are REALLY hurt that Brands would go full strength given the heat between the teams/coaching staffs

I’m just going to go with the lineup that Iowa has been wresting in my predictions.

125 - Terukina by Dec. Even with Ybarra this will be close, and would not shock me one bit if Iowa wins. 3-0 ISU
133 - Attasauov better be ready to weather the storm. He doesn’t seem like the kind of guy that will break, but Desanto is a unique kind of beast. I’ll take Desanto by major. 4-3 Iowa.
141 - I’m going to go with Eierman by Decision. Eierman is the type of guy who can struggle to generate his own offense. I think he will win convincingly but Redding is tough enough to keep it to a decision. That said, Eierman is a pinner and it only takes one scramble into a cradle for him to deck you. Iowa 7-3
149 - Degen decision Sibrecht (too lazy to look up spelling). Lots of scrambling in this one and Degen ends up on top more often than not. Iowa 7-6
157 - Carr decision. He’ll win comfortably, but don’t think he’ll be able to score enough to get bonus on a very tough Young. ISU - 9-7
Note - if ISU is actually up 9-7 at this point that’d be amazing.
165 - Marinelli fall. Way too much for anyone ISU has. 13-9 Iowa
174 - Brands decision Devine. Similar to 133, Devine better be ready to go for 7 minutes or this could be a major. I think it’s likely a 4 point victory. 16-9 Iowa
184 - Coleman decision. This will be closer than people think, and Coleman will need to keep from getting bullied early in the match. If he can do that I think he wins by 2-3. Iowa 16-12
197 - Bastida decision. His takedown ability looks like he can compete with the best in the country. I think he controls the neutral position and doesn’t take bottom. Wins comfortably by 4-5 points. 16-15 Iowa
Hvy - Cass pin. 22-15 Iowa.

If Iowa keeps the lineup they’ve been putting out there than Iowa State can keep it respectable. If they put all they’re starters out it will be ugly.

Common sense tells me its case by case basis on when guys are ready. Iowa has the horsepower to win this dual without needing to risk much. Kicking our ass is important - and that will probably happen regardless - but the B1G duals, tourney, and NCAAs is importanter. :p

125 - Ybarra is tough and will be a 3x AA once Lee is gone I think. Winnable match, Terukina by Dec something like 5-4.
133- Desanto 15-6. MDec Iowa, leads 4-3 in dual.
141 - Eierman 6-3. Iowa leads 7-3
149 - Degen over Turk 7-6. Iowa leads 7-6
157 - Carr wins 12-5. Cyclones lead 9-7
165 - Bull pin. Iowa leads 13-9
174 - Brands over Devine in a close one 6-4. 16-9 hawks
184 - Coleman over Myles Wilson 7-6. Hawks 16-12
197 - Warner over Bastida 8-4. This one could get scary with Warner on top. Could see a pin easily from Iowa. Hawks 19-12
Hwt - Cass by pin. Hawks 25-12.
No Lee or Kem.

I don't think Ybarra will see the mat for Iowa after this year unless Ayala or Schriever get injured

That was an oversight lol. Yeah if Drake is at 125 Ybarra will ride the pine or transfer out. Cullan should be up at 133 and Ybarra looks small enough to hold 125. I guess if he transfers out I will stick to 3x AA, he's solid.

ADS by only a MD and JE only by a decision seems pretty optimistic.

Jaydin just beat a true freshman from Princeton 15-7. I wouldn't call hoping our R12 potential guy losing by just a decision as optimistic unless we don't think Redding is that good? If he gets caught in a cradle, sure, Jaydin can pin anyone. But if he stays out of it loss by decision seems likely.

The only matches we win are Degan and Carr maybe Coleman if Assad doesn’t go. I think we lose a couple close matches at 125 and 197. 133, 141, 165, 174 and HWT will be brutal.

Not sure if Kem is going, doubt 174 is brutal if NB goes.

Assad just lost to a high school kid. If Coleman doesn’t roll him we got problems. Give me Coleman all day over Abe I think Myles would be tougher.

Hope Joel gets him but Brands is tough. He’s a round of 12 guy or All American if he wrestles for anyone other than Iowa, Penn State or Michigan if Massa returns.

If I lived closer, I would make it, but I don't think I am going to make the trek to Ames for this. There just isn't even a remote scenario in which this should even be that close. And there is not a chance in hell the Brands bros don't put the A team out there to even let the door to that be cracked open. It is what it is. I just hope we have some fight and maybe an upset or two.

After Army TB mentioned that some of the guys who've been going for us in place of the starters will be in Ames. Who knows what exactly that means, other than the fact that they will physically be in Ames on Sunday.

Means nothing.
