Egg rolls for me. The wife is cuckoo for crab rangoons. I know a lot of folks are obsessed with the pizza @ Fong's as well. I don't understand the appeal. Just seems like a lot of crust without much filling. Maybe I just haven't had the right kind yet? Who has the best in town?
Skip the pizza @ Fong's and get it from Hy Vee on the Tuscano crust...half the price and just a good. The Hy Vee gas station in Ankeny on N. Ankeny Blvd is fantastic.

It all depends. Those large generic mass produced egg rolls suck.
Same with crab rangoon.

I like both, but it seems like more places screw up egg rolls (i.e. over-frying them) than crab rangoon so I usually opt for crab rangoon first. About the worst thing restaurants do to crab rangoon is skimp on the filling.

Always get 2 rangoons at Tsing Tsao instead of the eggroll.

Side note - Crab Rangoons at Samurai in WDM are the best I've ever had.

1. Spring Rolls, WITH MEAT!
2. Egg rolls
3. Dumplings or whatever
4. Crab Rangoons

Clarification - Are you categorizing pot stickers as a dumpling?

Also, whar won-tons?

As long as they taste decent there is very little separation between any of these in my book.

One more also. You could divide this by nationality. Having pork egg rolls at an authentic Vietnamese restaurant might be my favorite appetizer ever.

Not exactly sure.
Lactose intolerant so I go with the egg rolls. Cream cheese in rangoons is something I can avoid so I do.

Good dumplings are the best. Last year in NYC I was prepared to eat at all these interesting places but I found myself just going to a number of different dumpling places. vanessa's dumpling house and Xi'An famous foods. Damn

I generally prefer egg rolls. A well done crab rangoon is tasty though. The ones at HyVee are too sweet for my liking. I'll eat one occasionally and remember that I like their egg rolls better.

I like the Crab Rangoon Pizza at Fongs. And they have a crab rangoon appetizer, that's more rolled up like an egg roll. It's been a couple of years, but that was pretty good as I recall.
